What’s Dorrington’s status? Is he still recovering from surgery? What is his expected date back?

How good is the Portuguese second tier? Are we basically talking the Scottish Championship with less GBH?
It's not great, but it's not terrible. I went to see a few games of Academica at that level.

The benefit is that the big three in Portugal are often picking up the best players from there. Feirense are one of the better teams as well. Always fighting for promotion, and were definitely in the top division at some point during my time there - so between 2016 and 2020.

If he performs, there's every chance that he'll get a similar move to Edwards (albeit that was from the top league already), or maybe a Braga or similar.

Not sure how I feel about the ITK earlier today about Donley being seen as a capable deputy for Udogie. On the one had I think it's great that he'll be able to stay at the club and gain first team minutes. There's also an element of him developing the defensive side of his game and becoming a more well rounded player. Certainly in our system, the fullback role is similar to that of a CM so it's not too alien for him.

On the other hand I think he's a terrific prospect and he could develop those attacking talents further with a good Championship loan getting minutes every weekend in his preferred role.
there's a lot of good feeling around donley at the moment but you start doing your mock drafts for what our best 11 and squad looks like and you realise how far down the pecking order he is. but for a mountain of injuries again(could happen), it's hard to see where his playing time is going to come from. also on the lb thing, he's been praised for his performances there but notice how it's all with regards to what he's doing on the ball and in central/attacking areas. when he's actually been in the lb position he's struggled a bit, which is no surprise, now imagine him coming up against some of the league's best wingers? i can't see that going well personally and that's no slight on him as it's never been his position.

i would prefer a loan and i'd back him to cement a place at a top championship side.

I agree, I certainly don't have him that far down the pecking order at all.

2nd choice LB at the moment. Would get plenty of time with us being in Europe. Which top Championship side needs an AM?

is he though? if udogie doesn't make it for leicester then you think donley will start? personally i would expect spence or micky.

i don't know what championship sides need what but we've heard that most of the league have inquired about him, luton being the most recently reported. regardless, i would back him to break into any side and have a skipp at norwich type year.

edit: maybe someone should make a donley thread. you would think our 2nd choice lb would already have one.

I kinda agree. I don't see Donley getting more than a few fleeting minutes if he stays but could have 1800+ if he has a successful loan in the championship. That would do his development wonders.
I also get the argument that staying and training week in week out with better players could elevate his game but my personal opinion is he would be better off with a successful loan

If Donley does stay I would like to think it’s because Ange values his versatility. He is good enough to provide cover in several positions.

Part of the reason Donley looked so good for the U21s last season is that he was surrounded by quality youngsters who were on his wavelength.

The reason Devine didn’t look so great at Plymouth is that he wasn’t.

This is a problem for creative players going on loan. Someone like Craig is going to be able to show his strengths wherever he goes. For the Donleys and Devines of this world, and to an extent the Parrotts and Scarletts, who depend on service from others, it is harder, and you need to get the loan right.

That’s why I was so excited at the prospect of Donley hooking up with Chris Davies at Birmingham.
