There are several international leagues that would be great for loans, Belgium is another one that would be ideal for a technical player, but it's a real test for a young guy to go abroad without his support system (family, club, friends) and thrive. It's not as simple as put young technical player A in technical league Y = good development. Off the field matters just as much as on the field.
Agree with this, I think it only works if we could build a proper relationship with a few clubs and could then also have some pastoral staff based at them.

Who are the eldest in that under 21 squad these days? Nile John and Max Robson? Obviously, players develop at different stages, but I would have to assume with the number of young editions to the first team squad at the moment, those two are surely closest to being allowed to move on? Nile is about the enter the final year of his contract I think?

Yes both out of contract 2025 and expect both to move on.

Shame that Nile John hasn't managed to kick on from his early promise. It seems that the loan at Charlton robbed him of confidence and his development momentum.

Unfortunately this is what can happen if we get a players development wrong. If we can get a year extension and loan him out to a League 1 club that may give him an opportunity to get a season under his belt and would provide more insight into his trajectory but I suspect given the limit on over 21 loans he'll just be let go.

But isn't Nile U21 for this coming year? The usual definition of U21 refers to their age on 1st January of the year in which the season starts.

If that definition is used for this purpose then both Nile and Matthew Craig are still U21.

It's not always on the club mate. Players develop at different speeds. He looked good against his peers at the time, but younger players have caught up and have now overtaken him. It happens.
