Sounds strange after getting beat but Reading for me was one of weaker teams I have seen this year so far at home.

Was watching Cooper in the warm-up sprints before the Liverpool match and he is a stronger runner now than he was last year.

Dennis Cirkin should not be playing u18 football because physically it is a bit too easy for him and he was walking through players.

Regarding Cesay the reason I like him at RB is because he works so well with Cooper and it is more of a team balance thing for me plus I think Cesay is a hard player to beat one on one.

Ye Reading weren't great. And I noticed they were a lot bigger than us.

Agree about Cirkin, even his goal where he just carried the ball the length of the pitch. It didn't even look like he was sprinting but it just seemed he couldn't be caught Similar with his early effort, it is very easy for him at that level, and he stands out. Just have him move into u23s or even better get a loan in January if possible. One of the best FBs I've seen for us.

You've definitely seen more of Cesay so won't dispute that but I did think he looked quite decent in CM

onomah made more appearances yes (34 vs 31) but less than half the minutes (807 vs 1654). mctominay started 11 pl games including big games against the likes of chelsea and liverpool as well as a cl knockout game away to sevilla so he was well trusted by mourinho. onomah played in a lot of games but it's misleading as the majority were for 5-10 minutes and the main bulk of those were in the cups.

i'm not under any illusion that jose is suddenly going to change his ways after all these years but he's not got to do much to better poch in this department. it's not even about "giving them chances" either, as long as he doesn't block them from going down other avenues to get experience then he's already doing better than poch in my book.

I think there ought to be some perspective on Poch now he's gone.

He brought Winks through as a kid then 100 appearences later Winks was starting in a Champions League Final. That's a special standard for our academy to hold. To have a homegrown story like that should have had a fairytale ending, alas.

Furthermore in these threads some have not counted Kane because Sherwood played him. Kane became a beast under Poch. Skipp played twelve times as an 18 year old last season. If Mourinho turns him into a world class midfielder then will people not count it because Poch played him first? I think there needs a balancing act. Could Poch have done more with our academy? Yep. I've said it. But with Kane and Winks and even someone like Mason (who loves Poch because he achieved his boyhood dream becoming a first teamer under Poch) he did a better job than most other managers.

It's a chicken and egg scenario. Everyone in this thread follows and wants our youth to get a chance and get more satisfaction for it. We love that Parrott got a cameo. But others are pissed Lo Celso got snubbed again and want to spend big money on readymade players who might propel us to the top immediately but says curtains for a kid.

Is he primarily a right or left back though?

Checked him out on transfermrkt and says he’s right footed so guess more of a right back (although primary position listed as centre back).

Gotta have a left footer at left back for me.

He is f*ng mustard! We desperately need such a kind of sinning. Young and hungry.

Trix said The Sun will be reliable this transfer window, Youcef Atal just suffered injury and he's out minimum 3 months, Ferguson is getting closer...

winks is one player in five and a half years, just by the law of averages even the most mediocre of academies should be able to boast that kind of return. poch deserves a lot of credit for kane's development but he didn't give him his breakthrough, sherwood started him in the final six pl games that he was in charge of. poch came in and didn't play him in the pl again until november, i don't necessarily blame him for that as a new manager has a duty to get the best out of the more established players first but it still doesn't erase the fact that kane had a run of starts prior to poch coming in. if skipp becomes a regular under jose then for me it won't have had much to do with pochettino. you have to look at where the player was when the manager left, skipp was hardly getting on the bench by that point let alone starting games, he was and still is a fringe first team squad member so if he goes on and becomes a regular starter then it will be 95% down to jose.

it's not just about bringing players through though. over the years the academy has been a steady stream of income but that has mostly dried up since poch has been here. some will say it's because we're not producing good enough players whereas i'd argue that none of them had much of a chance to build up any kind of value as by the time they were finally allowed to go out on loan they'd already spent the previous 2-3-4 years either stagnating in the u23s or being stuck in poch's no play zone. the previous generation of players(kane, townsend, carroll, caulker, mason, rose etc) were all out on loan at 17/18 but under poch they'd have been stuck here until 20/21. there are merits to both methods but i'd wager that those who have the opportunity to play games in those crucial development years will on average have a better chance of reaching their potential than those that don't.

"While Parrott will remain at Spurs next month, Mourinho is prepared to send a number of the club’s other promising young players out on loan, in a change from his predecessor’s policy. England Under-21 midfielder Oliver Skipp, 19, and 20-year-old defender Japhet Tanganga, who have both played for the first team this season, could be among the players to join other Premier League or Football League clubs in January." Are we going to loan out Tanganga even if he doesn't sign a new deal?

Depends if it was Poch, Levy or whoever made the decision not to loan him out in the first place. If Poch had final say on those things, I can imagine Jose being much more happy letting the young players out on loan.

Even with his contract expiring in the summer?

Brandon Austin seems like quite a prospect to me, is he more promising than Alfie Whiteman?

Since Mou is here and Vorm is injured they always swapped for taking the place on the bench. So his coaching team maybe sees them on par so far.
Under Poch I recall Austin being picked over alfie.

I thought Whiteman was often on bench for Poch although have to admit haven’t always paid attention to the sub keeper.

I can’t see Austin being thrown in at the Allianz Arena. Gazziniga will play.

Risk your only fit senior keeper in a nothing game be madness. Austin just looks the part more than Whiteman much more a physical presence. Whiteman just looks a bit weedy. There’s obviously no science behind that call lol.

lol Such a huge risk playing a keeper in a match these days, don't want him to break his wrist whilst he's saving the ball now do we :D
