I wonder if Mourinho is gonna be disappointed with what he finds in the academy. He’s talking like he’s expecting loads of gems. Yes we have a few with potential. But in reality the only ones that are near ready are already with the senior squad in Skipp Parrott Tanganga. After that I guess next closest maybe White Binks Cirkin Bowden Bennett. But I don’t really see any of them are massively knocking down the door. Anyone I’ve forgotten ?
I think he just mentioned the academy because he has a bad reputation regarding young players. He is probably not much different to most top managers. Lampard is only playing Chelsea’s because they are obviously good enough.

Again I fundamentally disagree, im from Derbyshire, he was giving the young players in derby a chance and they were shit

He also has the benefit, that his no.2 has coached these players for 10+years, unknowingly, Morris has been developing players in his first team for the last 10 years

Seen the interview just now of him talking about the academy at utd and how the u23s got relegated so there wasn't much talent available there but there was in the younger age groups.

Anyone think he'll be disappointed with what's there in the academy at the moment?

i doubt jose has much intention of using the academy but i don't really have a problem with that, what i do have a problem with is the manager giving young players false hope and stifling their development. would jose have kept kwp around until age 22 whilst never playing him? unlikely. i imagine he'd have sent him out on loan(or trusted mcdermott or whoever to make that decision) a couple of years ago at least. loans aren't infallible of course but you're going to get a better hit rate going down that route than the poch way of doing things.

it's not impossible to bring a player through without using the loan system first but you do actually need to give the players some game time here and there. cup games, "easier" games, minutes at the end of games when you're comfortably winning, or losing, they all add up and are important for a player's development. even when we had an injury crisis in a particular area poch would reshuffle the team around, weakening multiple positions rather than giving a young player who actually plays that position a shot, all because they hadn't quite gone through his 3-4 year integration process yet. you really can save yourself a lot of time by throwing a young player in, sometimes they will surprise you and you unearth a gem, or at least give you a new option that you didn't previously have.

we don't have hordes of talent in the academy but we do have a few with genuine promise, not all will make it but even if jose only brings through a couple it's still more than what poch managed so the bar to beat is incredibly low. skipp and parrott aren't far off so there's two obvious ones right there.

I wonder if the rumours of a DoF are true and if so, could it be that there is a more general reorganisation behind the scenes?

Just have a feeling that we need to have a more strategic plan for the academy and therefore someone to keep an eye on it, organise loans, decide when some need to be sent to see the manager to be assessed and so on.

Surely we have to treat the academy as a way of generating extra cash and the (very) occasional first team player? If so, then give it the focus and importance it deserves.

Ultimately you’re only as good as what’s in your academy. I’ve no idea where we sit in the pecking order in London when it comes to scouting attracting kids. I’ve no idea what’s involved as far as financial persuasion or if that’s even allowed. But my guess is we are still a far way behind Arsenal and Chelsea in the overall picture. Although obviously we may pick up one or two gems. I’d really love to hear the story behind getting Parrott. All that said there’s obviously things strategy wise we could be improving upon.

We do need to rehabilitate our youth program somewhat because the sad truth is that it had begun to haemorrage the best youngsters and we are certainly facing more of a fight than we used to to convince the best kids to come to us. Spoke to someone not long ago who spoke about a couple of real talents that we'd spent a lot of time wooing and scouting who ended up choosing the Gooners. The reason? No pathway. Neither of the kids or their families were Gooners so that didn't even enter into it. The Gooners don't have better facilities or better coaches. It was all about the perception that our youth system had lost its focus. We desperately need to get that back. Luckily I don't think it'll take much to get us back on track. Youngsters getting some cup games, going out on loan and maybe another one making their way into the squad as a regular squad player. That's all it'll need to rejuvenate things. You cannot underestimate the damage that not loaning youngsters out has had on our reputation. For all my misgivings about Jose he does like a very compact senior squad of 22/23 players. Beyond that he relies on youngsters to make up the numbers. He's not renowned for bringing kids through successfully and in fact he's held responsible for the stagnation of a good number of Chelsea youth but he isn't afraid like Mouricio was of getting them out on loan, having them on the bench or throwing them in for dead rubber games.

Did Poch turn up to watch his son?
I may have missed it, but is his son still on the books? What happens with him now?

Under 18’s lost 5-2 away to Newcastle in premier lge Cup so we don’t progress from the group. No idea of team ...report was in The Mag

If that line is right U15 winger Jaden William made his debut from the bench for the U18s.

Good spot. Cant remember the last time an u15 featured for our u18s even if it was the Cup. Especially this early in the season.

I've mentioned him before as someone I liked but haven't seen him recently, assume it means he's liked
