I thought Whiteman was often on bench for Poch although have to admit haven’t always paid attention to the sub keeper.

whiteman was always ahead up until this season, then they seemed to switch.

problem with whiteman was that again, poch thought it was best to take him out of playing matches. he played six games last season which is just pathetic, 13 the season before still isn't anywhere near enough either. he was starting goalkeeper for england at the u17s world cup a few years ago, after that he stopped playing regularly(because poch) and then never played for england again. austin meanwhile got to play all the time and is now in england's u21 squad. he should be thankful that poch has gone because he'd probably been earmarked to take a two year break from playing just like whiteman had.

lol Such a huge risk playing a keeper in a match these days, don't want him to break his wrist whilst he's saving the ball now do we :D
With Spurs this season? Yes it is a risk. We lost Lloris for a few months. Re-signed Vorm and lost him a week later. Not a great record with keepers this season.

Exactly with crucial games coming why take a risk we’d be pretty screwed. Sadly Lenon just said that Bennett went off on a stretcher on Saturday.

It's about as risky as him playing a training session, extremely low probability of him getting injured.

I can’t see Austin being thrown in at the Allianz Arena. Gazziniga will play.

Reckless. What if Gazzaniga picks up an injury we already have Lloris and Vorm out.

It's the biggest trial run a kid could ask for. Let's see if one or either can grab it with both hands (pun completely intended)

They train and work hard for nights like this, let's give them a fair crack it's night like tomorrow they surely live and breathe for let's not begrudge either it in what is ultimately a dead rubber game.

An injury can happen at any moment, it's just a smart, sensible thing to do. Two senior GKs currently out injured, more than any other position currently at the club will tell you that.

It can happen at any moment but there's a bigger chance of it occurring during a game so why risk it when we can finish no higher or lower than we currently are?

I disagree. Statistically look at how many people get bad injuries during games and how many get bad injuries when training and I am certain the numbers will speak for themselves.

Training won't be as intense as the real action, less chance of a genuine tear or a snap or break I'd say.

We currently have 2 goalkeepers out injured, one long term during a game this season. Simply put due to our resources we aren't in a position to play our only senior goalkeeper in a game that mean something nothing at a time of the year that means everything for the rest of our season.

The chances of Kane, Dele getting injured are slim also but they've been rested and rightly so.

Because there's statically a higher chance or outfield players being injured compared to keepers, it's non-comparable.

Saying it's a 'risk' is a total an utter reach, you're acting as if he's going to be playing on concrete. You're just desperate to see Austin play that's all, I don't care either way I just think people are being unnecessarily over protective.

I couldn't care less if Austin, Whiteman or Gazzaniga plays in goal, it's a dead rubber game. What I do care about is how the squad is shaping up going into the Christmas period and the less games played, the less chance of a bad injury happening.

It's a low risk yes but if Gazzaniga gets injured, like Lloris, Vorm, Allison, Fabianski, Krul, Fahrmann etc have been this season then what? Would you rather us take any needless risk that leaves us completely exposed just as we are gaining traction in the league? We finish 2nd if we win 10-0 or lose 10-0, genuinely what's the point in us playing Gazzaniga when something can happen although unlikely?

Do you want me to name the 1000+ other goalkeepers who haven't been injured during football matches this season because I can totally counter your point, listing those keepers doesn't make your argument any stronger, it just solidifies the fact that the probability of Gazzaniga getting injured is low which it is. The guy has played numerous matches as our no1 yet someone it's garanteed that he's going to pick up a freak injury in the most Spursy way possible...typical Spurs fan way of thinking

These what if scenarios are generally very creative by the way, they're almost as imaginative as using the losing Kane to injury and justifying paying £60m on a backup striker for a few matches, it's inventive...I'll give you that.

I know it's low risk but I'll make it very simple for you.

Dead rubber game

2 goalkeepers currently injured

3 fit goalkeepers

2 have no senior experience whatsoever

Low risk yes

Why risk it?

Ask yourself this, if Gazzaniga pulls a muscle or does infact pick up a 2-3 week strain although the chances are limited would you still think playing Gazzaniga in the biggest waste of a European game in our history makes sense? To me it just doesn't make sense to do so although as you said and I have continuously said it is low risk. I just don't see any sense in it but each to their own.

I'm not saying Mourinho won't play Gazzaniga, just that I don't see the sense in him doing so.

So we've gone from picking up a groin or tear to pull a muscle...why stop there how about maybe break his leg or maybe sprain his wrist, you're doing an excellent job of jinxing our keeper, I'm gonna blame you if something happens to him. ;)

Why is there an argument in the Spurs Youth thread about the likelihood of goalkeepers getting injured?

I thought the chances of this thread being derailed by irrelevant crap was nil. Guess I was wrong.

Interesting to see Skipp, Parrott and Tanganga linked with moves away on loan, beneficial for their development I’m sure!

Skipp and Tanganga could definitely get some top championship loans...Skipp could maybe play at Norwich or somewhere but we want 90 mins for these boys week in week out!

Parrott is an interesting one, if we decide to loan him out, I think he displays such maturity beyond his years, he could handle a move to a European side...

Would love to see him spend 6 months at Salzburg if they sell Haaland!

Yeah Imagine the likelihood of a thread going off topic on SC, can't have that can we. ?
