Recently read that Middlesborough have offered scholarships to 12 under 16 squad members for the 2020-21 season. In fact teams like Stoke City have even offered the same contracts to some of their U15 squad to commence 2021. I know we have a few very knowledgeable contributors to this Academy forum, I just wonder if Spurs have done something similar. I would be surprised if they have not offered scholarships to players like Dane Scarlett, Jordan Hackett and Raushaun Mathurin. If they have not then they could be open to these players being taken by other clubs even if compensation is due.

I could be wrong but as far as I'm aware you can't offer them scholarships that young. What you can offer the kids parents is a pre-contract which is not particularly binding because you can't sign a contract that binds you to sign another contract.* its just a way of the club showing the player some commitment and the player's family doing so in return. The pre-contract may include staggeringly generous inducements but most clubs won't offer that. I think the likes of Middlesbrough are just showing these lads commitment.

*I know you can sign a contract that obligates you to sign a different contract (say in the process of buying a house) but you're not legally obligated to sign. If you want to back out you absolutely can, it just renders all connected contracts void.

Normally the contracts they sign are that they will stop playing for their local team and solely play for the academy side.

It’s not a legally binding contract though but more of a if you break it we will chuck you out type thing.

Well that’s what it was at MK dons when I was apart of the set up.

Skipp and Parrott in white socks today. White socks was pre Pochettino yeah ? Either Mourinho scrapped it or they officially been elevated to seniors.

I hope so, our biggest weakness is our lack of mobile DM and a willing back up for Kane and both these kids should have been given these roles in the squad and been slowly integrated this season.
No point looking at alternatives as they won't be much better, just more experienced.

My gut feeling is Mourinho has scrapped the sock policy and rightly so if he has. I did kind of like the significance of it. But on the other hand it’s a bit demeaning to the youth players. If they are deemed good enough to train they shouldn’t have to wear a label basically saying I’m a kid and not quite good enough.

“We still have other players that can do it [playing at left-back], and on the top of that the game I couldn’t be at, our youth team in the Champions League, and we also have he’s 17, but he’s a kid with a lot of quality, and I look forward to bringing him to train with us, and to help his development,” Mourinho said

Have any players surprised you when you have seen them up close?
No, I have always said. People can say he is not Tottenham coach and he is speaking very well about them. How many years have I spoken well about Tottenham and the players? I like the squad and I like the players and I know them. I am in the Premier League now six or seven years in a row, I know them all very, very well. I am learning now about the younger ones. The ones that I didn’t know very, very well. (Troy) Parrott, (Japhet) Tanganga, (Oliver) Skipp. The ones that didn't play very much in the Premier League are the ones that I am trying to learn as well as the ones that are in youth football.

not that i think bowden's a bad player but 3.5 years is abnormally long for a player his age and standing, can't think of too many 18 year olds we've given that length of deal to. very glad to hear that cirkin has signed up though and that jose even gave him a mention.

Right now he does feel a bit like stereotypical CDM we’ve been producing over the last few years. Hopefully can add a bit more to his game, he definitely looks the part style and technique wise.

Walcott, Cirkin and Bowden... any of these likely to be premier league quality? I don’t watch the youth much so any informed opinion is welcome.

Cirkin has just signed a contract aswell

Is Cirkin highly rated then as not heard much of him?

Always good if we can dip into youth though to fill potential gaps in squad, means money can be used elsewhere.

Doesn’t look like he has a shirt number at present either so will be interesting to see if he’s given one now.
