Really like that 20s side no surprised to see a good team with the 99 and 00s combined. Great Dozzell is back and just clocked Slattery is too how long has he been back. He was real quality but had loads of injuries. With Gomes as well there is so much talent in there and a lot missing out too

Interesting reading about the age when players are ready etc. But it still frustrates me that we have so many midgets in our side that don't have the physical presence. Wait for them to mature into what - a bigger midget? Look at Chelsea, even their midgets are faster and stronger.

Do our scouts need friggin specsavers FFS? And don't give me that shite that we are second choice for players. Make it so we aren't bloody second choice. The loser mentality around this club gives me the shits big time. Surely there is a catchment area where we are strong. Are we spending all our time looking for the next Messi or Tom Thumb? Oh no Dad sorry, your lad is going to be over 175 centimeters, tsk tsk he's too tall for us by gum. Do you know any kids on your street that have a growth problem?

Harry Kane must have been walking around on his bloody knees for years to escape the 'height' rule.

We are never going to pay young players !0 to 20 thousand pounds a week as Chelsea and City do because they do pay such money they skoop up all the top youngsters not only in England but worldwide .
My son was working near the Chelsea training ground and was explaining to me that a lot of their youngsters were tuning up in top of the range cars . We are just allowed along with the rest of the clubs squabbling over what's left .
Perhaps with stadium /training ground / shirt sleeve / sponsorship we may be able to get one or two of these upper range youngsters who knows . But is is common knowledge that Chelsea mainly have been farming Europes best youngsters for all of the Abramovich years and it has been very successful and although before this season not many had made it to the first team they have made large amounts of money in transfers and they seem to win all youth competitions almost every year .

I mentioned a long while ago that ethos to be a Puritan in our beliefs to acquire top speck academy prospects, we have to pay. But we don’t all agree on that, and the world is changing. We lost a youngster or two in the summer for that very reason.

all the chelsea lads making their way into the first team at the moment have been there since they were like 6, 7, 8. they do get first "dibs" on kids even at that age because of what they can offer them but it's still the coaching they've received over the following 10+ years that has seen them get to the level they're currently at.

i do think we neglect the physical aspect a bit compared to other clubs though and in general ours are always small/late developers in comparison. arsenal are producing players with a better blend of attributes at the moment as well unfortunately, they've had a baron run over recent years but they're now bringing through some players of real quality. we do still have a few of our own but not as many as the clubs around us and even ones like parrott and bennett are fairly recent recruits, rather than having come all the way through the system.

With Arsenal don't you think its down to the roles being reversed? As in they're a Europa League club for the last three years and can't afford/attract big signings so have been playing their kids in that tournament and one or two have earned their way into the team regularly since the main team is not that strong.

We used the Europa League well to get some players blooded in but since we've improved as a club the number of youth has dropped and Poch is keen on giving first team players minutes even when they have no real future here.

Remember when Poch went to Dortmund with Onomah and Carroll in midfield?

This whole Chelsea revolution is being massively over hyped. They’ve beaten nobody yet and bar the win away at wolves( who we were in a europa rut) they’ve done nothing of note yet.

Funny how Poch brings through Winks over 5 years and everyone leans on that as a reason hes done excellently with our academy.

Lampard has Tomori, Mount and Abraham introduced to the first team whilst continuing with CHO but its nothing impressive.

And have shown @ljinko888 and us you dont need to be in the Europa league to give them a chance

At this moment in time you’d say they’ve done well, but that’s all you can really say at this point. Like I said they’ve not really beaten anyone of note. So the comparisons to class of 92 are slightly ridiculous.

the re-signing of vorm is yet another example of how baffling the approach to our academy has become.

now let me get this out of the way first, no i wouldn't feel particularly confident if whiteman or austin found themselves in goal for the first team but this isn't the point. clearly poch feels the same given we've had to resort to bringing vorm back but the two issues i have with this are a) why aren't we letting them go out on loan if that's the case??? and b) how on earth are they ever going to prove whether they can be relied upon if at the first sign of trouble all you're going to do is shit your pants and re-sign a player you've just let go? what's going to change in whiteman/austin's game from now and next year? or the year after? or the year after that if all they're doing is training and not being allowed to prove themselves capable or not somewhere else? we don't want to loan them but we don't want to play them either so is the plan to just keep them until they're mid 20s and then release them?

does john mcdermott not have a say in any of this or has he just become pochettino's yes man?

The fact Whiteman didn’t get a single minute in pre season was pretty telling. They may as well be at some kind of football college and at 22 thanks very much for the coaching now off you trott.
