I'm not trying to answer for IGSpur but I think his point is a simple one: the players that he named were all very good at youth level and the difference between (for example) Wan Bissaka and KWP is that the former was given the opportunity to play and the latter wasn't. Very simply, the more players play then, generally speaking, the more likely they are to reach their potential. Ours are given relatively few opportunities to play and therefore their development is stunted.

But Winks followed exactly the same path. Not making his PL debut till 21. But he took his chance when presented it. KWP had a glorious opportunity but has not impressed most likely because he simply isn’t good enough. Not a single player we’ve let go from the youth academy has gone on to be great somewhere else. Just don’t know why people can’t accept that the majority of our academy just aren’t good enough.

Look I get your point IG and obviously opportunity is important. But I believe if a player is of the right character they will make it whatever the pathway. This is a question because I don’t know or can’t think right now. But how many players left Chelsea academy to be a success somewhere else. Rice I know are there loads more ?

Does anyone find themselves thinking about how the mood in here may change in the near future if Poche doesnt change things soon?

In what sense?

guessing he means if poch gets the sack then this thread might be more positive if a manager more open to playing youth was to replace him.

i don't know, i guess it would depend on who replaced him. i criticise poch a lot but he's hardly the only manager not very good at giving youth players the right chances. i think his heart is in the right place but his ideology just isn't realistic and it's hurting the academy - and indirectly, the team.

But Winks

Even if you count Winks as some great counter-argument to those making the wacky claim that Pochs no-competitive-games-between-the-ages-18-to-22 system maybe isn't the best way to get the most out of a players potential, how much better would Winks be if he had been out on loan getting game time?

And lets face it, right now Winks looks like the third coming of Tom Carroll/Ryan Mason. And he looked like much more than that in our youth teams. Which is unfortunately a common thread among our best youngsters.

Spurs losing games at all age groups is becoming a depressing theme - something is just not right at the club☹️

The players in the youth team aren't good enough so even if we got a new manager who plays youth all the time it won't make a difference. Outside of Parrott it isn't a strong enough group to make any difference to the first team, unless we drop down into a club chasing the top 6 again, then maybe a few can come in and play at a mid-table Premier League level.

Its a sad reality that we have a weak group of youngsters at the club, especially in comparison to Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal but they have bigger budgets so it is to be expected.

So average especially in the middle of the park. Be surprised if many of these make a career above league 2. All physicality.

maybe, it's difficult to know until you give them the chance to prove otherwise though.

look at jaden brown. not a bad player but fairly middle of the road as far as our academy goes, he was let go and now he's starting regularly in the championship. huddersfield fans seem to think highly of him, for the time being anyway -

i'm not for a moment saying he's going to end up being a player we regret losing but it is indicative of how inefficient we're currently running the academy side of things whereby all we seem to be doing is holding players back and then ultimately letting them go for nothing.

Jamie Bowden has earned his first call-up for the Republic of Ireland Under-19s.

An international call-up is long overdue for him, although it isn’t for England yet, this will hopefully be his chance to be considered in the England setup.

Mason was more highly rated as a youth player than Winks ever was and Mason was out on loan getting game time from the age of 18.
