Even at half time I was confident we’d win. West Ham didn’t have a great deal of quality (heavy reliance on Bowen or Kudus) and their attacking intent reduced after going ahead.

The change to Sarr was key; he was energetic but importantly winning the ball back high up the pitch.

For once we scored some scruffy goals (scruffy finishes) which is a refreshing change.

Job done.

Just watched some highlights back, a couple of things;

Antonio just allows Bissouma to walk onto the ball for his goal, a bit similar to how Brennan didn't really react to Kudus in front of him for their goal, but it was probably far easier for Antonio to follow Biss' run. I'd be fuming if that was one of ours. Great alertness from Biss though to react to Udogies turn and a really tidy finish.

Some of the recovery runs from West Ham for our third goal were non existent. They look like a team who don't believe in their manager. They're very one dimensional and remind me a bit of AVB Spurs, reliant on Kudus and Bowen to make something happen otherwise it's not going to.

I'm a little disappointed we stepped off it when we scored our 4th, and Sonny hit the post. It feels like there was a real opportunity to step on their necks and hit them for 6 or 7. But overall it was a great performance, especially the second half. The intensity and energy we played with was wonderful.

By the way, Solanke is a fantastic footballer, his hold up play is exceptional, and his ball carrying skills under pressure are something I didn't know he possessed. He's skilful and I think he adds so much to our team. His pressing is fantastic too.

I know Romero and Udogie had poor second halfs against Brighton, but I think Ange was really disappointed with Bentancur and Maddison - they vanished in that midfield second half, and it was why we were overrun so easily.

Bentancur was dropped today. And he wasnt even on International duty.

Maddison given the opportunity to put it right, and didnt look up for it...Ange then hooked up.

Romero has been exceptional for us this season.

Show me a player who has his "A" game with him every game and I'll show you a liar.

Come the Summer Madrid and Barca will I suspect come in with offers.

As for our midfield we now certainly have options, one of which is Bergvall who will become a mainstay in our midfield, Bentancur i think will be sold in the Summer.

Disagree slightly, he created 4 chances and got the assist for Kulus goal. Just didn't have the defensive legs which is why Ange made the change. On another day we score 2 or 3 in that first half with the opportunities we created and Madders stays on the pitch

MotD highlights did not do justice. We created a lot of excellent chances, plenty of decent chances, I think we will give someone an absolutely shellacking this season.

also didn’t show Grays turn in our six yard box - that was made for the highlight reel.

What I did like and didn’t pick up at the ground was how quickly Ange identified our defensive issue (our left flank) and took decisive action, literally as the half time whistle blew. We still have some improvement to do defensively, lost too many duels and especially on our left we looked quite weak, but Sarr’s introduction solved that second half.

Positive signs that over time, Ange is looking at all the options and choices he can make, not just going with the balls out, most attacking one

Not sure I agree.

I thought he looked off it. Yes he got the assist, but set pieces wernt good and his all round play was a bit off. He looked tired anyway.

We looked so open, and you could see Ange wasnt too enamoured when he signalled to Sarr to warm up at HT.

I know we won but can I petition the PL to end the Saturday 12.30 slot once and for all.

It's a hopeless time to play or watch football, and the crowds are always so flat no matter who the home side is.

Give me a Saturday 7.45 or a 12.30 and I'd take the evening game every time.
Personally I love this time slot. Enables me to get to the game and home in a reasonable time. Sadly was too ill to travel anywhere yesterday, nice waste of an expensive ticket but we won! The only other ticket I had was for the Chelsea game but now they changed the date so it's been sold back to the club. I really hate all this changing of times and dates. Saturday 3pm is all there should be. End of grumpy old man rant

I think it's fairly obvious that Madders was not pulled because he was not being creative enough - he did a fantastic job on the day in terms of creating chances - in addition to the assist.

But, I think Ange is looking for better balance in the midfield.

Son and Madders, in particular, are not strong in tracking back - and that leaves gaps and puts unnecessary pressure on our defenders. In most games, we can't afford to carry both - thus Madders came off.

I think Ange needs Madders to be more of a presence when defending, or he needs a player like Sarr. Madders obviously gives us more of an attacking threat, but Sarr gives us a much more balanced midfield.

So, I think that is where Maddison needs to work - not on his creativity, but on the defensive efforts - expending as much energy tracking back as he does on the ball.

He is still a key player for us - and I think he will start against Palace - but if he does not work on that area, his minutes will start to diminish in the league.

He should really get an extended ban. It was 3 red cards in about 10 seconds.

Same thing happened to Joey Barton when he got sent off against City, then punched Aguero in the stomach and butted kompany. Got a 12 game ban if I'm not mistaken. Three for the first offence, then four for what he did to Aguero and five for the incident with Kompany.

So therefore has to be atleast seven for Kudus, three for the slap on VVD and four for the slap on Sarr. I think the kicks will be ignored.

He shoved him so that’s a yellow unfortunately

Hes been responsible for switching off or brain farts for at least 3 goals (from memory Leicester, Arsenal and Newcastle I think, he also switched off against the Arsenal set peice) 2 of which cost us the match.

It’s pretty clear now that refs are being told unless absolutely certain to just show a yellow and let var call for on field review if necessary. We saw it in the Woolwich game also.
It’s pretty easy to say ‘that’s defo a red’ when you’ve just watched it from many angles and slowed down.
The refs see it once, in real time.
Its not clear, refs have been giving straight reds such as the Fernandez one on Maddison (though overturned)

A most enjoyable game all round. If we had a little more consistency we'd be a very dangerous team and firmly in the top 4 hunt. Consistency is a tough ask for a club still in reboot/rebuild mode though.

Lots said about tactics and specific player qualities etc but if Ange can truly change the mentality/fortitude around this club then whether or not he actually leads us to the promised land himself, his legacy here would be cemented.
We're inconsistent against teams we should do well against and dont win against teams better than us (we were very fortunate against Liverpool last season that the offside was cocked up). Villa were the last top team we beat under Ange...VILLA! When we start getting points and wins against those teams then I might say we're on the way, until then I brace myself against the possible disappointment every weekend whoever we play..

Agree with you on Madders but I think you’ve got it wrong with Son - his tracking back was exceptional all game. The bigger concern was Johnson’s inconsistent tracking back which left Porro very exposed.
