As a total aside, Rice looks like the player we are currently missing. If they go down or even if they don’t I hope we are all over trying to nick him. I also think Antonio could be a very astute signing as a back up for Kane...
Unfortunately they will be more money than our chairman will want to pay.

Really depends on West Ham's position. There has been a lot of talk that they might be in a dire financial situation if they go down.

I know some don't like Levy but he will spend where he sees value or an opportunity.

You do start to wonder if centre back becomes less of a priority in the window with the performances of Dier and the improvement in Sanchez playing beside him and on the right side of defence.
I have also thought Davies has played his role excellently in the last two games.
Gio is marvellous - he is going to be so good.
I thought Moussa played well once again and Harry played well once again.

I think it was Leroy Rosenior who said there’s something not right when a team spends £50m every season and still starts Mark Noble in midfield. And I think he said that 3 summers ago!

Can't knock his service to that club but i can't help but feel there's a massive myth around him - What is Noble actually good at? Very average player and i can't recall ever thinking otherwise. His passion for WH always meant he turned up against us but i think his legs are going now.

And we still have Tanganga as well.
CB isn't looking as bad as it was.
I wonder if they see Tanganga in a similar mould to Davies in the fact he (could) play right back and then slide in a central defender if we're going to continue with that slightly lop sided formation Jose seems keen on adapting.

100% this. Thought he was very good last night. He was the one nullifying our attacks, he’s got a good range of passing.
Whether or not they go down this year, he’s going to be a top player - and not for West Ham.

The bit in the article about Kane's contract being heavily incentive-based: I'm sure that it plays a part but I get the idea that he is just extremely competitive and wants to be the best at what he does. He does need to be managed better as he gets older in order to reduce risk of injury but really he should be considering that himself.

I still think we need one more centre back.

Well played Ben Davies and Lo Celso, the best performers on the night. I thought Sanchez and Dier handled Antonio well

Its a good start with Davinson and Dier, but I am certainly waiting with a judgement once they get a bit more tested.
Both United and West Ham couldn't offer too much ideas and energy up front.

Hipster writer tries too hard to be controversial.

I agree with this part:

"Harry Kane is being tempted deep, in search of involvement, and their most dynamic players – Son and Moura this evening – are generally stood still when they receive the ball. It’s still chalkboard football, rather than anything of any instinct."

I can't tell you how much it infuriates me that Moura and Son don't run ONTO the ball rather than receive the ball and then try to get past players from a standing start.

It's hard to see anything in that article that we don't already know. We're a work in progress - there are some very talented players in the side that need time to gel under the new system. Everyone needs to be patient - I know that you are and yes, there are a couple of areas that need filling/reinforcement but I really hope that people don't get too hung up on that because it will be a tight window in terms of finances. Hopefully Mourinho will have the clout to attract a player or two within the budget afforded to him.

Because Dier and Sanchez played well and our team worked better as a defensive unit. They played against a very dangerous Utd attack

It's a shame he can't just focus on what has happened in these 2 games.

Have our systems been frail and fragile in these 2 games?
Where is the "conclusion" that Eric Dier may be over his injuries and can compete to be a 1st choice CB.
Where is the "conclusion" that Steven Bergwijn could prove to have a value that far exceeds his fee?

Does he really think that H getting 250K a week basic is not adequate and the only reason he has been overplayed is that he must stay on to get more money?

On paper a very dangerous attack. Lets wait until the offensive lines get more games under their belt and start to gel again a bit better. I think so far it is pretty obvious that the long break has an influence on performances.

I can only roll my eyes when judgements are out positive or negative after not even a handful of games. Who knows, next Thursday everyone has already their knives out again when Dier and/or Sanchez give away easy goals/chances.

Just waiting for a "that could be our defence the next 5 years" statement.

Good steady performance from the team. We had a good amount about us in the end.

I guess I should say more about our lads, but I was really impressed with Bowen. I feel for the lad as he may have jumped from the Championship to the wrong club and find himself back there next year. I wouldn't have been upset with the lad being signed by us back in January, but not at the expense of Bergwijn.
