Can’t say we really deserved to be losing at half time.
This is why I can't understand a lot of the criticism.

we've lost games and conceded goals this season not cause of the system as such but because of mistakes

We've had perhaps 2 bad performances and 1 second half collapse, otherwise we've played very well and the system hasn't shown too many flaws.

But the minute we concede there's a flood of posts ready to have a breakdown.

I think some of that is because of a lot of what happened last season and you have to discard a lot of what happened last season because

1. It wasn't his squad largely, whilst he did get an uptick of form with some players they did revert.

2. The injury crisis completely derailed any momentum and good moral we had. We likely would have struggled at some point as we were getting used to Ange's system but players struggled to get back into the swing again.

I really don't put much stock into last season as we have seen a big difference in this season compared to second half of last season

Thats what I thought and I saw the stat/narrative from whatever stream I was watching and thought oh they are referencing 2024 as a whole not solely this season. Is it lazy punditry?
For corners... before today we'd only conceded 1 this season. So for them to make up some narrative before the goal was nonsense.

For "Set pieces" I've no idea, but I can't think of many/any

The thing that annoys me most about the constant narrative about our weakness of corners is that it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy...

We are constantly told that we are weak on corners. So whenever we concede a corner the fans/crowd get nervous. This must be felt in the stadium, so affects the players. They're also aware of what is always said. So they get nervy.

At this level a tiny % of doubt can be enough to have an affect. Which means when we concede from a corner the cycle continues. And gets worse.

As a side note I remember when some fans were crying when we didn’t sign Pau Torres, and yet again he was fucking useless and a liability. The blokes a Carthorse

Think it’s just Gabriel for Arsenal and now Rogers today.
That is why Sky put up the last two seasons. Most goals conceded from set pieces. Suits the narrative. Spurs Achilles heel bla bla bla.
Why not just put up this seasons stats.

Thats where it was, one of the most head scratching moments when I was thinking we haven't been tortured this season by corners

I tried not to have my phone out too often and looked like a tourist. But I was feeling pretty giddy at the end of the game and pulled it out for Madders free kick. lots to see in such a short video. top for me is Solanke being the only player who plays hard for a rebound. Brennan was lax and others stood still. they must have known ot was going in

I dont think they made up a narative, I'm sure they said since the start of this year. That would include some of last season and hence the statement would be factual though not showing the whole picture.

Just finished a long day back at work, and just remembered this game. Cheered myself right up. I'm going to rewatch the highlights now

First thing I’ll do is hold my hands up in apology to Pape Sarr - I thought he was a clunky and limited workhorse but how wrong I was. He was everywhere today and made us tick, which was especially huge as Kulu had a quiet one. He stood up today and nailed his spot, no doubt.
I'm surprised he didn't get more of a mention, or any mention at all, by any of the commentators or pundits.

They did the same with arsenal's red card record - they made it since arteta arrived and it looks like they've been savaged......however, when you look at it by year you can see his first two seasons (with Xhaka) were atrocious, then they had two seasons in a row where they were bottom of the red card table, and now they're on a bad season again. If they had just taken the last three seasons, then arsenal would be bottom........so it's more a tribute to Xhaka and Luis being so dreadful, rather than any big conspiracy! :cautious: :shifty:

Still don’t see how he was at fault. Makes a great stop to prevent the own goal and then the lack of anyone marking Rogers means he has an open goal. There is nothing Vicario can do — but not watched it back admittedly.
Agreed I think it’s just a very unlucky one to be honest. Porros flick on going straight at Benta with pace causing him to nearly score an own goal which made vicario pull off a great save and it then luckily falling to Rodgers unmarked.

There is no rule that you have to play football, I dont disparage or disrespect what any team does as long as its within the law. Apart from us I would rather Villa win the league than Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City or Liverpool (in that order). I fully respect how Emery has turned that club around.
You are absolutely insane. I don’t want anyone to win it except us. If not us then City because it - truly - doesn’t really mean anything. Then Chelsea probably for the same reason - although I’d suck it up for Liverpool. Nobody else. I hope Villa never win another trophy ever. Same with Arsenal.

Emery and money has turned that club around, and sure I respect Emery but that doesn’t mean I want them to win anything ever. That’s crazy talk.

You have to respect any manager who can get their team to perfectly execute a game plan, and a big chunk of Emery's on Sunday was to get in front of our players and fall over (y)
