Second goal tonight was great, neat little give and go, the fuck can't we do that more often?
Because most of our players pass the ball and then stand there thinking job done. Now you do something with it. Very few pass it to get it back, and even less actually do (get it back)

This is the problem with 5-3-2, and the 4-3-1-2 of last season. Who is responsible for tracking the opposition fullbacks and stopping switches of play and getting overloaded on the flanks? It ends up almost always being central midfielders shuttling across, but none of the attackers tend to drop back in to fill gaps. You just end up with a midfield getting completely torn to shreds and out position chasing about trying to put out fires, all whilst fans moan and cry about what a shit job they're doing...….

Exactly. 433 with clearly defined role for wide players on transition will go a long way to us turning over possession centrally and being able to counter at pace, as we seem to want to do.

We can't set the necessary traps in midfield because it's as open as a whores asshole.

Well well.
2nd match we’ve stolen, but we found a way to win.

Don’t know hat happened after Southampton scores their second, but suddenly they dropped off. Whether they were worn out from the intensity or were taken aback by the fact we decided to play?!

whatever. Fairplay to Moura and Son who were desperately poor all game but were match winners come the end.

I actually felt Southampton were fading when they went 2-1, said as much to some mates on group chat when they scored. There was a drop off in their press and they started giving the ball away cheaply. It allowed the subs to change the game, helps when the team you finish with is stronger than the one that starts!

Was all about the result today. Playing against a form side with a patchwork team, I'm delighted with the result.

Watch Jose's post-game interview. Explained it all.
I’m sorry, but Jose loves to gas-light us into lowering expectations. Even understanding fatigue
and injuries we still played abysmally for 70 mins. I appreciate he’s getting results but I find watching us play almost a chore at the moment.

Two more assists by Dele Alli, to bring us back from the dead and turn an abysmal night to a triumph. But yeah, let's sell the useless sucker.

Cool, the highlights package is normally uploaded to YouTube after an hour or so.

I do wonder if that's what's happening tbh, but I suspect Jose is just telling it how it is.

SCBC are flying, played a near full strength team that have fully gelled over last couple of months and are full of confidence. We're a team in transition missing most of our key attackers, playing a sub-optimal formation and carrying 3 players that are badly struggling for fitness and mobility.

What I can see is we're becoming a more resilient side, and when you hang in games we still have the quality to hurt teams. In fact we are wasting a lot of good goalscoring opportunities at the moment by poor decision making, and that's without us having much of the ball. We've wasted so many good counters across the two ties.

It could be blind optimism but I'm hopeful we will start to be more enjoyable to watch again if we can just keep our best players fit and allow them to gel on the pitch together. Really hope Lo Celso is back for Villa.

Didn't have the opportunity to watch the game, unfortunately. First Spurs game this season I havn't watched, by the way. But, I wonder; how did Sessegnon work as a striker/left wing in this game?

Played as a LWB. On the whole did quite well. Made a great burst into space for the first goal, won more physical duels than previously and made some nice cutting passes. Defensively seemed ok but may have been guilty of exposing Jan, who sadly was targeted and looked way off of it. Ended up at LB after the tactical change when Dele came on and was subbed late on. Still work to do but positive signs.

It was a disjointed shit show from front to back and we got away with robbery.
Was like we were playing without a lb, a dm and a striker.
Oh wait, we were.

Jan looks absolutely done. Makes you wonder if something has happened behind the scenes in the last couple of days.

We were on a massive high from the City game, something seems off.

we were very poor in that game should have got stuffed but rode our luck and for once had a ref who made Proper decisions

38 percent possession. Lord have mercy
Thatia how Jose players. I remember all too well the times he parked the bus against us yet somehow got a result. I know I am in the minority but as someone who actually goes to the games and spends good money on travel/food etc., sneaking wins doesn’t make up for anti-football

Well that’s what Jose brings to the table - results. And his teams never give the game away. We are still having the Poch hangover - not fluid and not playing with confidence and therefore freedom. But real team spirit (also part of most of the Poch era to be fair to him). But for Jose to keep us in top 4 running, still in the FA Cup - that’s what he does. He is winning games with his substitutions and tactical switches. Obviously he can’t make us Barcelona in a few months. But real progress in my view. Really looking forward to the Jose era

I genuinely hope now Mourinho allows us to play how we have ended this game. Just so much better, more support up front more incisiveness

no he won’t. It’s clear in the live games I have seen recently that JM has given the team strict instructions to defend first not allowing both full backs to come over the halfway line or central defenders to be up for corners. His plan is to hold out for 60-70 minutes and then go on the offensive. Against Liverpool it was a good tactic, we were unlucky to lose, as having watched them this season they tire badly in the last twenty minutes. Clearly He feels this is the best way to approach games without a big guy up top as he can’t see another way of playing. All is OK if we defend like Milan of old in which case it’s a good tactic against pressing teams but we have always been at our best when we attack. Still in time he may change things and be more progressive but I doubt it. I remember all to well his Man U side doing us in the FA Cup semifinals when we played them off the park but lost. This is the Jose way and hopefully will satisfy those who want a cup win, any cup win, as his record shows he usually delivers

No it isn't.

It's how he plays when he has to - when he's facing superior opposition or has had to cobble together a half-fit team.

He plays to give himself the very best chance of the best possible result.

His Real and Chelsea sides set goalscoring records and Real in particular dominated entire matches.

He doesn't play to give the ball up. Sometimes it's just part of winning the game.
