I thought Roma were very good. Bit of new manager bounce about them but I didn't see a poor side. I agree about the pricing though. Bumping it up for certain games is a bit muggy. At least at this stage of the tournament.

it's a Europa league stage game though. Price was too high which is why the home end was full of Roma fans

That was an enjoyable game! I always knew Roma wouldn’t be as bad as some were suggesting-just look at their squad; they’ve got some good players. I thought we played well in the first half, and the penalty decision you couldn't argue. Brennan Johnson’s goal was fantastic, arguably one of his best for us so far IMO.. The way he struck it...

In the second half, Roma took off Dybala, which was a relief at the time but they just kept going. I thought we defended well overall and handled most of their threats well. Our defensive line was especially effective, catching them offside nine times the most in the Europa League this season and nullifying three goals. So you can't argue too much about the defence.

Tactically, it felt like we mirrored the approach from the City game, sitting back more and countering when possible. Similar to that match, we conceded some space out wide but kept things tight centrally, which mostly worked. Roma used the width well, frequently switching play to their right flank, and they attacked more down the left. Perhaps we could have marked their wingers more closely, but overall, the strategy worked I thought.

Even though our second half performance didn’t match the first, we still created chances and could have won. How unlucky was Solanke’s header? In the end, it was a fair result. A good point to take away. Now bring on Fulham! Are we going to do a typical spurs?🤔🤔😄

There are different ways to be good at punditry.

He isn't verbose or entertaining. I wouldn't want to watch him do stand up. What he does have is authority.

There was a moment in the first half where Brennan beats his man at full speed, head down, and whips it in. Past Son and out for a throw.

Hoddle says something along the lines of "he should get his head up, have an early look." On the face of it, not an earth shattering insight.

If I'm heading that from Jenas or Gary Neville. Then of course they and I know wingers looking up before they cross it is a good thing. Neither of them could do it - certainly at that speed - and nor could I. But they know it's the right thing to say.

When Hoddle says it - he's observing something very specific. He knows exactly on which foot step he would look up. How to create time and space. How it would be executed, even at Brennan's foot speed.

It may sound like a general banal comment, but there's a very precise and deliberate intent to what he's observing.

If Messi made the same comment, it would also have the similar effect on the listener for younger generations now.

Hoddle is up there with any technical genius of the PL era. Modric, Berkgkamp, De Bruyne. In my view he's above them because of his two footedness, and the fact he was doing this on the mud heap pitches of the 80s.

The weighting of his passes off either foot was beyond anything I've seen of any player since.

He also heavily praised Kulu for looking up twice when he crossed for the Brennan goal.

Glenn is no worse or better than any other pundit, it just seems like some fans can’t handle criticism of the team . If he feels negative about aspects of it he has more than earned his right to criticise it. Why do we all get so wound up by others opinions these days.

I must admit i was expecting an easier game based on Roma's form so far this season but when the teams were announced i was surprised by how many good to very good experienced pro's they had. They've obviously got a new manager bounce aswell so all in all i cant say im disappointed to walk away with a point. I wouldnt want to face these again later in the competition thats for sure.

Welp, disappointing to lose the 3 points at the end there. We'll need to get 3 points at Rangers to give ourselves a real chance at top 8 IMO. Not exactly feeling confident about going to Hoffenheim and bossing it tbh. Then again that game is almost 2 months in the future and who knows the state of play then.

My takeaway from the game after an absolutely awful day personally so I maybe more negative than I otherwise would but I don’t believe that to be the case.

it was a performance that summed up this team. Brilliant in flashes but lacking in leadership and bite that all leads to inconsistency..

Roma were much better and more attacking than I thought they would be. They played some lovely stuff and moved us around really effectively:

This is going to carry on until we either sign some experience or players that’s can address our mental fragility or the group grows to the point that they learn these lessons. I see no signs of that happening though.

its going to be a long season, with plenty of really great ups and some frustrating downs.

I think you are overreacting slightly about a long season..Other teams will score goals. They played well and didn't stop going. They got some real quality with a good new manager. 2.2 is not a bad result !

Remember we are building it is going to take time I think some people need to lower their expectations. Everything is going well so far.

It’s an ok result but I maintain that the up and down nature of the game is a good reflection of our season. We’re brilliant at times, actually we’re arguably the best in the league at times but then frustratingly poor at others.
That’s why I think it will be a long season. We will go from massive highs to frustrating lows.

You can’t lie he was a glory to behold in full flow, just naturally gifted at football. One thing thing and my dad would often say it, I can remember it. *Glory on the ball but a lazy shite off it*. Honestly don’t know how he would fit in todays game, the team would have to be totally built around him.

On SC there's only one. Say things you agree with. Be right. All the time.

Which, let's face it, is impossible. What one person can understand the next won't get.

:D
Your the next person in this scenario I’m guessing :troll:.

Could have won it 4-1, could have lost it 4-2. Draw probably fair result as both sides had several chances/openings. I think we'll still get top 8, and hopefully we do as that will be two extra games we could do without.

I thought so in places. I know spurs missed quite a few chances also and could be described as wasteful.

I just don't think Roma are this terrible side. They were good. Mostly second half.
I agree, I just thought we were more wasteful.
I also agree about Roma too.

I thought last night's game was good at pointing out our strengths and weaknesses and as such given us a good view of what we need to do in terms of transfer activity in Jan:

ST - Solanke is turning into the player that we expected Richi to be - a solid 20 goal per season striker that can do a lot of good hold-up and link-up play and presses really well. However we don't need two of these players in the squad, and given how injury prone Richi is we need to be looking at selling him ASAP and bringing in a striker who can be more of an on-goal threat than Solanke. Osmihen against us the other week is the type of striker I'm thinking of.

MF - We're clearly missing a PEH type player in midfield - someone we can bring on and who can help us battle and hold onto a lead. It doesn't need to be a big name signing, just the right type of character that can get us over the line in these types of games. It might have to come at the expense of Bergvall sitting out of the European squad.

LB - We need proper cover for Udogie. Whilst it's probably great for Gray's development, he's not going to become a LB in the long term and in the short term it's causing us some issues.

I think these are the priority positions and depending on Vicario's recovery we should also assess if we can sign Forster's long term replacement in Jan rather than waiting until the summer.

How can u say we're unlikely to get the top 4?

As much chance as anyne else and will go to the wire.

Roma have some very good players, and they played well and deserved their point.

We should of killed the game and paid the price. We move on.

For what reason is Ange not playing our best players given the fact that our two starting CB's and goalkeeper were out?

Why is he playing Gray out of position and not starting Udogie?

Why did he not include DJ in the EL squad?

It's like he is keeping players "fresh" for what?

We have forever played as if the top four is the golden fleece of achievement, and last night was another case of not playing our strongest starting eleven when we really needed to get a result.

Ange again took liberties with the EL competition and to suggest otherwise is plain stupid.

We don't have the player quality in depth to challenge half decent teams in Europe. I don't think (and may be wrong) that Roma haven't won an away game in fourteen?

We made them look like prime Barca last night in a game where had it not been for VAR we would have been humiliated.

What we shoulda, woulda, and coulda done "we move on" is as old a Spurs excuse that any fan in denial can say. Move on to what?

Hoddle was master player. He does have a tendency to say things that I cringe at.
He said a hella worse to loose the England job. Funny thing was he never really apologised for it.
