How on earth can Ange possibly coach any basic defending with the injuries?

The only answer is other managers would just try and get through this injury crisis by not exposing what defence is out there and instead sit back, tighten up the shape and play for the counter after scoring first. Ange will never do that believing our attack would be shackled and I don't think we can hold on against Newcastle just trying to see a game out but other teams we probably could have. It is what it is.

todays performance was inevitable given form and injuries, still doesnt make it any easier to stomach.

Amazing how before the game the chat was measured and expectations realistic. In game, and it has generally become the opposite. I can only presume its a different crowd, maybe 🤷‍♂️

Should be 1-1 we started well Newcastle came into it the second part of the first half. Agreed we need a shift from our wingers. Werner owes a performance or ten.

He chooses to play him ahead of others. You can’t tell me that someone from the youth team would be any worse

If we'd have been able to have got Santiago a new contract rather than having to sell maybe, but our u21s this season can't even beat other u21s let alone professionals.

Apart from Bergvall & Spence & (ofcourse Solanke) nothing coming from the others.
Bergvall was the only one even trying to take it on. Some claim it was Bergvall mistake for first goal - Infact Sarr absolutely puts a bad pass to him which Bergvall ends up stretching for it

Johnson - almost like he is not playing today. We can as well play with 10 men. I dont go usually after him - but I have to call him out today. If he was sick in the week, he better sub himself and give a chance to academy youngster

The one time I miss Mourinho.

He would be going crazy at the officials after that half and rightfully so.

Completely agree with this. We are so soft as a club, when shit goes against us we just take it on the chin.

I know this sounds all conspiracy theory esque but if those decisions had gone against another club I guarantee the broadcasters are making a big deal of it. They have just moved on from everything questionable in our favour but showed about 8 replays to see if Djed 'got away with one' not giving a corner away.

It's infuriating.

If our squad was fit this is the team we would play in a Europa League group game after having already qualified. If we can somehow sneak a point and get out of there it'd be a great result.

I don't disagree, but those other decisions are the issue (by the law), not this one. The inconsistencies are ridiculous and so frustrating.
I agree, but the inconsistency leads to people not knowing the rule, which is even more confusing because they change it every year.

Just another frustrating aspect of modern day football.

I think everyone blaming the wingers today needs to calm down a bit - good wing play requires the other parts to be working as well. We have a makeshift squad, that has about 50% energy levels across the board.

We are doing well to make this a scrappy game, but we lack control of the midfield, which would have given greater freedom to the wingers, and Deki and Dom are doing all they can to try and chase down balls in the middle to hold up play.

Imagine being called into work while you are battling an illness - you are just happy to make it to the end of the day. This was not a match where we should have been expecting a result.

Do we even know who has and hasn't been ill this week? I'm loathe to bemoan players if they've not been feeling 100%. Can properly sap the energy levels.

I also don't like this media narrative that makes it sound like we're the only ones who play out from the back and it doesn't always work. I've seen more teams play that way these days than go direct.

Anyway not expecting anything from this game, but you can still see the players giving it a go even if it goes wrong at times. They're still believing in it even if some of the fans aren't. And that to me is a big indicator they're behind Ange.

Moore is from the youth team but is ill. A part from Son, who else can he play there? I don’t want Werner anywhere near the team but you can’t just make shit up. I think this is his fourth start all season including Europe, hardly always picking him over others.

Missed the first half

Anyone give me a quick run down please?

Reading twitter their first goal was handball and Joelinton should be at least on a yellow?

All things considered, we're not actually playing that badly. The Barcodes don't seem to have a midfield at times.

A lot of people were pleasantly surprised by our line up. May well have shifted the dial on expectations.

Thought the handball for the goal was handball regardless tbh. He's going towards the ball so hands by the side doesn't matter to me. I think when you go to narrow the angle of the ball and it hits the hand it's handball.

The Burn hand ball with hands way out stopping a counter should be a 2nd yellow too. Ref bottled that one.

I fear we're going to get steamrollered this second half. You just know there won't be any subs until we either concede another goal or there's 60/70 mins on the clock.

Edit: so he's changed up the defence.
