Taking Bergvall off was ludicrous. And I don't want to hear "he is too young". He was probably our best player out there

I thought the same and said so at the time. He was running the midfield.

But we don’t know the context. Was he one of the players that has been unwell?

Whether sick or not, I feel it must be Ange managing minutes for all players to try to limit risk of any further injuries / exhaustion. We have a very busy January and not much of a squad so need to manage players game time regardless of performance.

Thankfully we didn’t drop off too much from it.

97/98 was the last time I remember being close to it and we were saved by Klinsmann coming back. We beat the drop by 4 points that season. Do we have a jurgen coming in this month to help turn things around?

I doubt we will but I’ve lived it before so I’m not as complacent as others.

Be honest, that team needed a Klinsmann, it was miles behind our side now.

Perhaps he's saving him the semifinal.

Could be. He could have had a knock, his numbers might have flagged up something it could have been any number of things.

I would say those who want rid don't want to see that or actually care, it's a convenient stick to beat him with, but that might be a little unfair because this is the kind of thing that gets said all the time. It's easy to knock a decision but unless you have the facts it's often better to be a little more balanced before getting the stick out.

What if he was one of those ill and could only play so many minutes with a big game on Wednesday to come?

People bemoan Ange for running players into the ground so when he takes someone off to potentially save them for the next game they'll still moan. We are threadbare as it is.

I get he was our best player up to that point, but we also gained more control increasing pressure on Newcastle after the three subs came on.

Only seen the final 20 mins today and caught motd there my word we were shafted in that first half. Never seen Ange so angry in his post match interview and rightly so.

I'd be less fussed about the handball if all instances were treated the same. I'm certain we'll see it happen a few times this year and immediately be blown.

Oh this is without a shadow of a doubt. That or the rule will be immediately changed ala Sissoko in 2019

I remember that season! Watching us through the gates with my mate as we couldn't get in (you could just about see one 1/4 of the pitch/goal), I believe we played at Wimbledon and Klinsmann scored 4!
Yes, that was the match that saved us in the end. I remember Klinsmann running riot that day.
That was the Christian Gross season.

Spence and Bergvall look great. Time working hard. We’re still working n this.
The player most of here have thought has been
It was the right call.

Since 21/22, inadvertent handballs in the build up will only rule out a goal, if the hand ball was by the player who scores.

The only check was to see if the hands were in an unnatural position - they were not.
Then why did we get a free kick on the half way line when it hit Burns hand?

It should have been ruled a handball when it happened because although it may have been accidental it diverted the ball from a Spurs player to a Newcastle player so they had gained an unfair advantage.
Exactly. Whatever the rules say it doesn’t seem fair at all.

I liken it to when the ball hits the referee. They used to just play on but they’ve changed it to bringing it back

I’ve no problem with the law as it stands concerning no goal if it hits the hand of the goals scorer but goal stands if it accidentally hits the hand of another player in the build up to the goal. That wasn’t the case here. Spurs had the ball and Bergvall’s pass would have reached a Spurs player if it had hit Jolenton’s hand. Even though it was accidental it send the ball into the path of a Newcastle player just outside the area. That gave Newcastle an unfair advantage from a body part that’s not allowed to play the ball. The referee should have awarded us a free kick immediately. Once he didn’t it all became a bit of a grey area. Really poor refereeing and I think VAR was wrong not overrule him.
