Nope it's in front.

You're aware Carroll is at the top of the image right?

I've seen the pictures posted on here. Grainy, unfocused shots of screen grabs. If you have something better, please do share, but from what I see, there's no way you can definitively say Carroll's head is in front.

Well I am saying that.

I am convinced both the head and the arm are offside. Let's see on MOTD in full screen. Can't realy tell from that small screenshot. When I watched it live I remember for sure it was offside, I was flabbergasted.

My issue with VAR is that it does not review all elements. Today, the "foul" from which Newcastle received the decisive free kick, is not a foul. Officiating error. Everton, free kick (from what was a foul) taken a good 5 yards forward from the location of the foul. Officiating mistake. Both consequential. Neither reviewable. I am well aware that everything cannot (should not) be reviewed. But both were consequential. Both, had they been reviewed, dramatically change the results of the games.

For that matter, there was the play earlier that went off the Newcastle player and it was given as a corner instead of a goal kick. We have lost out on a similar call last year where the ball wound up in the back of the net from the resulting corner. All elements of consequential decisions should be reviewable, if they are going to rule the game by video replay.

I believe the offside to the millimetre is ridiculous (regardless of which way it goes). Pukki's goal last year against us should have stood. Son's 4 goals should have stood. The handball rule is ridiculous. Why our players do not just start shooting at arms in the box is beyond me. Until teams start to consistently abuse, what is a stupid interpretation, the rule will not change. Hand to ball versus ball to hand was so much more in keeping with the intent of the rule. That does not preclude handball when you deliberately stick your hand above your head in a wall, and there would be the obvious exception of goal-bound shot, which should always be called. Beyond that, just play ball.

I also wish they would use stop time so that the ridiculous ManU play til they win crap stops. Time stops for subs, goals and injuries. Beyond that, the game is 90 minutes.

The fact that you're all spending so much time going back and forth on the offside sort of underlines the fact that it wasn't clear and obvious, which is what we want VAR to sort out to begin with. I hate these small "offsides", if you can even call them that, and would like the benefit of the doubt to be given to the attacker, so no issue here.

The handball rule on the other hand...

I have returned to this thread 5 dozen times today in the hopes of finding some pearls of wisdom as to why what happened today happened, or to gain some insight into how to cope with the depression, and I'm afraid to say you sorry lot have offered up neither! ????

Had a beer, got outside for a walk. Started up the bbq. All helped. Seeing city and wolves lose comprehensively didn't hurt either. Just a shame Leicester got 3 points.

They wouldn't have got that wrong mate. It wasn't offside.

It should never have been a free kick in the first place though.

Shocked. TBH I am afraid it could be more than just the ineptitude of referees...
That's the second rookie ref we've had in the past couple of games! Dreadful performance from today's official - the 'foul' in the last minute was an absolute farce but I'm not into conspiracy theories so I'm going with sheer incompetence from officials!

I have posted several times in this thread and have just realised that most of them (regarding offside) are completely moronic. I apologise. I'm not usually this dumb.

You can make anything level the thicker the line you’re using is. The first shot is right. The line is as thin as can be to measure.

Regardless. It’s not a free kick. It’s not a handball.

That "thin" blue line is what they use to measure more accurately, they rotate it to match the yellow lines aligned with the pitch.

Let's not forget the 'freekick' that was given which lead to the *not* penalty. Both were jokes of decisions.

Yeah football is so soft nowadays.

Free kick given whenever there's contact no mather the reason. Players diving all over and the ref's no longer even give yellows for diving no mather how obvious (Sterling against Wolves last week comes to mind).

Throw in this handball rule and you have completely destroyed this once beautiful game.
