Don't think it was "dive" but it was very very soft. If Dier had laid hands on him, to pull back or attempted a challenge on the ball and missed it would have been different. But he didn't so it wasn't a pen. Pogba initiates the arm contact and the leg contact was incidental.

Very harsh on Dier.

He got turned inside out and then panicked

I agree with the first bit. Not with the second.

if he’d laid hands on Pogba or tried to challenge for the ball I’d agree. But neither of those things happened. So what’s your basis in evidence that he “panicked”?

I think overall that was an acceptable result and performance. For a team ravaged by injury and fixture congestion pre Covid, we looked solid and pretty sharp. Quick, athletic and intelligent running off the ball in attack. In defence generally solid. Our weak link is in midfield. We are lacking a Bruno. Sissoko is a runner, Winks is tidy in rotation, Lamela - well he adds a bit of bite with running and tackling but frankly is a very poor ball player. The number of times sonny and bergwyn were making runs but lamela was sorting his feet out. We need a couple of Bruno types in our squad and the goals will flow and release pressure on defence. Not many of them around though...

Jose knows what needs to be done and I think he’s the right man for the job. To take us to the next level. Need a couple more players to pull the strings in the middle

To an extent I agree, but if you take the last 10 or so games in to account we have been awful. I was hoping for a bit of positivity tonight but unfortunately our manager wants to stop other teams from playing football rather letting our team play. It’s painful to watch. Good or bad - we’ve always had an identity- sadly we don’t seem to have one anymore

Jose has been in the role for 3/4 working months with a squad not winning games and struggling with injuries and a lack of confidence. He hasnt recruited any players and has immediately managed to address some fundamental issues like a more defensively solid team and grinding out the results. We were way off the pace towards the end under Poch. Yes Jose is one of the most successful managers in history. But he can’t turn a struggling team into Barcelona in a few months.

People like to pretend Poch’s whole reign was 16/17. There were patches in his first season where the players said they were scared to play at home because they got booed so much

Jose Mourinho, when describing our forwards' fatigue towards the end: "We wanted to press like we did in the first half......."

And there was me thinking that the only time we pressed them was when they got within about 20 yards of our goal. That must be why he earns £12m a year and I don't. Either that or we were watching different games.

I get it with Kane, not being up to snuff, 6 months out etc, but I wonder has he his mind made up and he's off. Now, i love him as much as everyone else on SC, but fuck it, if we got a boat load of cash for him, and invested it wisely (not like the Bale windfall) would it be time. He is another ankle injury from being cracked. We can't be a one man team.

Whether it was a dive or not, he got a penalty for being Pogba.
The penalty was given because there was contact, minimal though it was.

My concern would be that the team was sat so deep, inviting Man U on for wave after wave of attacking pressure. That gave Pogba license to play as an ancillary forward, getting in behind without being tracked by the midfield. United overloaded that flank and Davies wasn’t properly supported by the mids (Son and Winks on that side) which forced Dier’s hand to go to Pogba in the first place.

So, if the midfield hadn’t been quite so surrendered we may never have got to the point Dier had to go to challenge and ultimately foul Pogba in the first place.

Considering he hadn’t played in so long I thought Eric did really well for the majority of the game.

Will be interesting to see what changes are made for the next game. Without a dedicated, specialist CDM I think we should look at playing with three CBs.

Think last night proves we're not as good as some on here think we are. Table doesn't lie.

Limited footballers in the team and the fact the player we bought in the Winter window has had a bigger impact than all three that we brought in during the summer window is cause for concern.

'Three' transfer targets are not going to sort out a team that is running on fumes.

First half you could see what this team could be. Second half is a reflection of what this team has become over the past 18 months.

Blame game is easy, fixing it is the hardest part.

We pressed well in the first half!

Deary me, Gedson Fernandes. Have we signed a more mediocre player since the late 90s, early noughties?

If I was in the academy I’d be livid he was getting minutes ahead of me. Utterly average at everything; I’ve not seen anything from him since he joined

It was also very clearly obvious from his stats and history that he was bang average before we signed him too. Never understand moves like that

It's hard to press when you sit back, if you win the ball in your penalty box there's a lot of ground to cover and long balls don't work with invisible Kane and against the likes of Lindelof, Maguire. We had a setup where we tried not to lose instead of looking to win and I hate it when we do it at home. That's why I knew Ndombele wouldn't get more than 10 minutes and he didn't get any.

Sorry that’s a stonewall penalty. We’d be going nuts if that was Son the other end. He was done for speed of thought then he was always at a disadvantage once Pogba was passed him. Those are never not given

Would we? We have enough folk on here who keep it 'real' to make sure all of us who shout are put back in our boxes when we have it wrong.

Softest pen you'll see all season. Stonewall?

:ROFLMAO:

As for Gedson - did we actually buy him then? What a hot take on a loaned player.

I'm optimistic about it as they are coming from the different end of the spectrum.

Previously they'd both been returning from injury then playing extensive runs of games with no break in between as they'd go off on international duty.

Kane was getting back to fitness before lockdown, so was Son, therefore they have had time to heal and build their fitness up without the rigours of competitive games.

Now they need to play more games to get sharpness back.

Yeh hopefully, Kane looked seriously rusty though. He was so sluggish, and got absolutely dominated by Mcguire. Honestly he looked about 40 years old. Really hope it's just lack of match fitness, but I'm worried missing several months each season may have taken its toll.

Another one missed from not going the extra mile - Bruno Fernandes.
Could have been Jose's Frank Lampard. Can shoot, pass, create, get into good spaces.
Or you could have Winks who erm erm erm...

He’s alright but the praise is over the top. Should we have signed him instead of Ndombele though? Yes, is the obvious answer.
