Thought team set up, application and the press have been really good. Pinned them in and controlled the game.

On the flip side, outside of Madders and Spence think individual quality across the pitch was sloppy. Lots of rusty legs out there still it’s going to take a few games to get over
Yep, them pistons were a tad rusty.
My 11 year old is just sitting there with tears running down his cheeks.
I presume you’re hugging him?
Bit extreme unless they're gangrenous.
The danger with surgically inserting pistons.
Not going to complain about the performance, I’m thrilled with the result.

At 13 points clear, we’re more or less safe from relegation now. With many players coming back into the fold we can now focus on rotating properly and focusing on the Europa League.
And see if we can get ourselves in the qualifying for Europe through the league conversation.
Only 11 off 7th
Only 9 off 8th which could get Europe.
Has anyone done the maths on how possible a Conference League spot might be, if at all? A few clubs picking up some injuries, but surely would need a miracle turn around.
Big ask, but not impossible.
The amount of conclusions people draw on one game.

Remember criticism Kulu got on his debut
He’s deserved a lot more over the last month or so, even if he is knackered.

Probably not but they also said it was very, very unusual. Neville was convinced it was bollocks. It'll have traction on here however because, well, you know..............

The truth is, on balance it is unlikely but we will never know. It'll be our individual prejudices that decide which way we lean for us.
Just another stick to beat him with!

I hate to feel like I have an agenda against Son, but the way we pressed them and managed the game through the last 8 minutes after he went off was eye-opening. Odobert didn't do much of note but we were really snappy, pressed well, had the ball in their half and created some half chances in the time where you'd have expected United sides of yesteryear to turn the screw.

All of that was what we should've been doing all game against a United side that were absolutely there for the taking and didn't make a single sub before injury time because they had nothing on the bench, yet we only managed if after our captain and most experienced player was no longer on the pitch.

He may be tried, he may be fatigued, but when Solanke comes back, Ange will have a decision to make.

He has been a sublime player for the club, but with Tel, and Odobert, both with a ton of pace, and trickery it's goin to be interesting to see what Ange does.

I think Tel's best position is on the left and he has played on that side for the majority of his starts for Munich.

Nice to have options.

Take the 3 points, but we looked really vulnerable to any type of pressure.

That I feel is the story of this team, and with respects with or without Cuti, Micky and Udogie.

Perhaps the real problem is a good DM?

I don't know but for as disjointed a team as United were today they had to dead cert chances in either half that even Steve Wonder would have put away.

We are still a DM and a CB short.

We controlled the game and should have won by more. Great to keep a clean sheet
We were lucky not to concede a goal which means we didn't control the game. According to Flashscore:
  • United had 6 shots on goal
  • 6 shots off goal (one of them the Garnacho 1v1 chance)
  • We blocked 9 shots
  • And we made 27 clearances
We were as bad defensively as we were against Villa last week, but weren't punished for it because Garnacho, Højlund and Zirkzee were poor in front of goal. A better team than United takes at least a point against us today. I want Ange to be successful with us, but again based on today I'm not convinced he will be.

Another thing I noticed is the total lack of outlets for Danso. Porro is in midfield and the passing lane is blocked, and the pass to Kulu is also not on because, as a winger, he is too far up the pitch for Danso to pass to him.

He isn't worth 45 million pounds. I'd send him back at the end of the season.

Today he was played out of his best position, he has mainly started on the left for Munich. He's playing alongside two players (Son & Kulu) who really played poorly today (possibly tired i would think).

It's just his third game, scored last week, and and has been with us two weeks without playing with our main striker, and a first game with Maddison.

I'd prefer to send you to Munich and keep Tel to be fair.

PS

We will likely pay more than 45 million for him, and as Ange has already CONFIRMED he will be with us next season.

I was gonna like your post...until that part :cautious:

Yeah maybe I'm being a tad harsh. But my initial impression is no thanks. Let's see how the rest of the season pans out. I'll be happy to be wrong if it's a successful season for him.

We really need a statement signing to replace Son this summer.

Our number one objective this Summer must be to offload and replace Richy.

Son may not be the quickest, trickiest, or now scores for fun, but he is ever available.

If we had a capable striker, perhaps Solanke wouldn't be out, and we could have played Tel in his natural position and given Son a rest today?

In a position as important as leading the line a second striker should be available for more than eighty games in three seasons in all competitions.

We just can't carry that, you see evidence of that in that United team today.

Let's see him play on a full strength starting eleven, with Udogie behind him, Solanke in the middle and Maddison back to match fitness.

Disagree with this completely. At least put our stats as comparison. Wait will do that for you

Bad defensively? Would love to be bad defensively and keep a clean sheet. They had chances yes , so did we. We had higher xG more shots, more shots on target, more possesion

We all know that comparing what we actually did to what the other side could have done but didn't is how to judge the result of a game, come on now.

When we lose it's that the scoreline is the only thing that matters not the stats or anlysis, but when we win if you can use the underlying stats (in this case poorly) to show that we shouldn't have done, have at it.

Whichever does the team down (y)

Sorry you didn’t point out any of our stats. To say it’s poor to use them is actually wrong. They had one chance we were lucky not to concede on but then we also had chances. And to say we were poor defensively is just wrong

Who is starting ahead of him?
Well, as strange as this may sound given what we all pretty much agree on him, I'd start Son. Hear me out!

Son doesn't look play the role that great given he can't hold up play, but with wingers back and a tweak we could minimise the need to do so. Son's instincts to a make those runs are better right now than Tel's and it may also help him by simplifying his game for a period where he is struggling with the creativity element and beating his opposition.

We could bring Tel on at HT or in the 2nd and just give him a bit more of an ease into the PL. I like his energy, he clearly has a good mentality and we should be looking to nurture him and see what he can achieve for the rest of the season. Today he was trying to do everything up there, partly due to Son's struggle out wide and this meant he didn't make some of the runs that you would have wanted and his shots weren't great as everything was a little frantic given that was the nature of his whole game.

Let's just slow it down a touch and give him the right environment to express his talents. Solanke is back very soon, hence he isn't starting PL games in the middle, therefore don't think we desperately need to get him into the starting CF role. Yes, he will maybe need to do it in the EL, but I can't see Ange resting Solanke in those games immediately anyway if he comes back fit and fresh.

United are in a lot of trouble when you look through their team generally.

Onana is ok as a keeper. Prone to a mistake as a keeper. I think he is exposed to more than he should in front of a woeful defence.

I don't think they have a decent centre back bar Yoro who is still young. I think full backs arfairlyly average as well.

Central midfield is really weak and aging. Mainoo has dipped in form but still very young. Fernandez can still win games but there is a real lack of defensive support in the middle.

Up front Amad seems to be able to do things, Holland is a lump who works hard but doesn't seem to be a natural goal scorer and I am not sure in this day and age where Zirkzee plays. Watching him yesterday he has a wonderful ability on the ball. He showed strength and can pick a pass, but he lacks pace and again doesn't feel natural as a goal scorer. I thought he was their best player yesterday - he has that ability to seemingly have so much time on the ball but he couldn't lead a line so a number 10 is about the only place he could fit.

Their squad is aging
Lindeloff, Maguire, Evans, Fernandez, Eriksen, Casemeiro all 30 or above.

Comparing our squad versus theirs I would have ours all day long. Don't get me wrong there are major issues in midfield and out wide for ours but they have a massive squad rebuild heading towards them.

A win’s a win and great to see couple of players returning, fingers crossed they can continue over next few weeks.

Tel worked really hard up top - pressed well, showed for the ball and made lots of runs. His ball retention wasn’t great but he can work on when to hold and when to lay off.
Odobert made a great little cameo; he’s missed a huge amount of football but he could be a real asset for the rest of the season.
Great energy from Bergvall and Spence in particular.
Son was left on for about half hour too long; he badly, badly needs a rest and with Moore, Johnson and Odobert in the squad surely he gets it now.

First half was pretty good, second half we didn’t keep the ball well enough and didn’t play quick enough but United are very poor and we got there. Let’s keep the momentum with an away win next week and make it 3 on the bounce.

I just watched the Sky Sports highlights of our game...

They show our goal and Tel's chance and that's it. The rest is Man Utd chances.

Is this just a really biased reel?
