It's all levels isn't? I won't enjoy the idea that they have won it, and I won't enjoy sucking it up when reminded of that fact, but I very genuinely have a lot of other things that I need to worry about in my life that it pales in comparison, so in a lot of respects it won't even register long term.Out of interest, how many other spurs fans don’t care about the grief we will get if arsenal win the league?
I'd say their move from Woolwich to Highbury in 1913 was the key moment. Before that, it was just another London derby, like Spurs vs. Fulham or Millwall vs. QPR.Rivalry started in 1909, I believe.
it would be a repeat of West Germany vs. Austria in Gijon in the 1982 World Cup, a game one of the Austrian players admitted (I'm not sure how much later) was bent.lol. Just imagine if it was the scum playing the chavs and a win for either would give us the title. They’d kick off then spend 90 minutes playing ring a Rosie’s, pocketful of posies.
I completely understand this logic - and don't have an issue with anyone who thinks this way.Beat City, beat Sheff United, hope Villa lose to palace and get top 4. That will be better for our club. Need to put us first.
To be precise, according to the bookies, it’s actually a 5.42% chance of spurs getting top 4 while Arsenal get a 87.5% chance of winning the league. All of us can see a scenario where Villa lose to Palace.
It's whether you are willing to accept a ~50% of Spurs getting top 4 while Arsenal get a ~90% chance o winning the league. Some will, some won't.
I can get both sides, can you?
Playing Devil’s Advocate with this rehashed vid
Quoted this, but not aimed at OP.
Everyone worried about the above realises that you are absolutely able to not let pathetic football "banter" impact your life, right? Like, it's a choice YOU can make.
If you rise to football "banter" then you are part of the reason it exists. Why allow something you have precisely ZERO control over (yet can absolutely choose to pay no mind to) impact yourself?
It's about as daft as it gets, IMO.
For me it’s nothing to do with ‘banter’ it’s that I don’t want their players or fans to experience any joy. We have an opportunity tonight to make them suffer.Quoted this, but not aimed at OP.

Well, you have only been on SC ten yearsI’m genuinely shocked about how precious some fans are.
I completely respect this opinion, however I do think its important that "Tottenham Hotspur" as a club / brand are in the top competitions. I believe it shows major progress under Ange, its important for our continued growth - even if we're not quite ready to compete in the competition right now. Mixing it with the big boys is where we want to be. That said, if we do get beaten tonight, I wont be crying myself to sleep on this occasion.I completely understand this logic - and don't have an issue with anyone who thinks this way.
But, I, personally, don't think qualifying for CL this year is "better" for the long-term development of the club. We are not prepared to be competitive in CL right now, and undergoing a major squad overhaul this summer won't change that - once we have shown that we have acclimated to Ange's style, and have the players who can play - we will be ready, but I think it is at least a season away.
I would be happy to see us in Europa - as long as we took it seriously - and build up the squad.
The narrative I am on about is you suggesting people wanting us to win tonight don't have any Gooners around them. I have them in my family and in my workplace and I have had "banter" throughout my 33 years on this earth. As I have got older I have learnt to let it go. If it bothers you, then fair enough. We're all fans and we all support how we see fit.
I just find it odd to care about the banter that much. That's all.
Just calling in "banter" makes it sounds more trivial than it is - if we want to go down that route, we're watching grown men kick a ball around etc etc and none of it matters so why bother watching.
Maybe I'm not explaining myself well enough. What I find odd is caring about hearing what some random people might say for 20 years so much so you want your team to lose? You shouldnt find it odd though, you dont have to agree but there's nothing odd about it. Just calling in "banter" makes it sounds more trivial than it is - if we want to go down that route, we're watching grown men kick a ball around etc etc and none of it matters so why bother watching.
As others have already said rivalries is a massive part of the sport, and I like that we have more rivalries than most every season. Some (like me) don't view 4th as the be all and end all, nor view winning a game vs city in isolation, which we have already done time and time again in recent seasons, as any kind of achievement or special marker that will signify anything more than a one-off win.
So for me, I'd rather we didn't win/draw a game to put our biggest rivals one game away from the league title as i dont value the benefit to us all that much. I don't want their fans to feel the joy of their team winning a league and having a parade, I want them to feel like i did in Madrid after after origi's goal - that's rivalry and there's nothing odd about it.
Not to say that when i'm watching the game I wont have the gut instinct of wanting the team in white to be playing well and scoring goals, but there's an override tonight that means if we do score i will feel somewhat lukewarm about it.
