the thought of that slimy greasy lego headed fuck and his group of diving cheating limp wristed freaks winning it makes my skin crawl.

'costing' them the title (albeit it's done over the season) would live with both sets of fans for generations, it's something i'm completely on board with.
Reminds me of Action Man, he's got the eagle eyes as well the prick.

The match threads are volatile enough without a number of the fanbase actively willing us to lose, so I'll be steering well clear.

Even though I could never get on board with it personally I get why some fans would rather we didn't get a result. I just want to win every time we walk out and I guess I'm pretty thick skinned in general, so when it comes to the banter side of things I just let it wash over my head without any drama.

It did shock me last night though with some in here cheering on Villa so that we had nothing to play for, and that is something I don't get at all. The fact they'd rather finish 7th behind Chelsea as well as Arsenal than get a result tonight did make me wonder why they are in it all other than for the tribalism. If we finish below Chelsea then expect to get it from both sides rather than just one.

I look at the "what other fans are saying about us" thread and read over and over about how we live rent free inside their heads. Well Arsenal certainly do exactly that with a good number of our fans, they'll deny it of course, but that is very clear after some of the comments of the last couple of days.
If we finish below Chelsea it’ll mean we’ve lost to Sheffield United, who have won three games and conceded 101 goals, so we’d fully deserve everything.

It’s a bit odd to me how “you’d rather lose than win” when what’s at stake is maybe a chance of getting fourth lol? I thought we used to clown on the “top four is everything” and “don’t care about glory”, but now we’re willing to help those bellends win the league to get some more revenue? I can’t keep up.

Just for the record, based off what the bookies think, the likeliness of us beating City, then beating Sheffield and then Aston Villa losing to Palace is 17/1.

In that scenario, the chances of Arsenal winning the league become 1/7.

Of course we could also potentially beat or draw against City and then either not beat Sheffield or Aston Villa beat Crystal Palace.

This would leave us with no champions league yet still provide Arsenal with a 1/7 chance at the league.

I don’t think some people are quite grasping how permanent winning the league is.

The history books will be written and the fans will always remember who won the league each year.

Who it was that qualified for champions league though will be relegated to being a difficult trivia question in a spurs/villa pub quiz night and no one else will care or remember it.

I’m spurs through and through, have them tattooed on my skin, so I know when the match kicks off tonight I’m not going to be able to help but support my team when they’re in the thick of it.

But right now, before my mind is clouded by the match, I have absolutely no doubt at all that I hope we lose to avoid having Arsenal win the league.

For all of the discussion around us beating City and handing the initiative to Arse, were aren't going to win tonight are we?
No, a team with 4 defeats in 5 and patchy form v a team that hasn't lost a game in December aren't going to beat said team.

I'm just going to enjoy the spectacle.

Nope if we do finish 7th it's because that's where we have finished over a 38 game season including tonight's result and on Sunday. We have 2 chances to secure European football.

And see I don't see 4th as a trophy, what I do see it as is extra revenue and another feather in our cap as far as attracting our prime targets during a very necessary rebuild.

You want us to lose because you see a win tonight "as helping Arsenal"(your own words). Where as I want us to win because I think a win tonight is helping Tottenham. That's how our priorities are different.

Even if we win tonight, Arsenal aren't guaranteed the league and even if we lose tonight, City aren't guaranteed the league. They both still have to play one more on Sunday. Yes, they're both home games and on paper are winnable, but nothing is certain.

Comparison really is the thief of joy, it seems.

I want to win every match, couldn't care less what someone else is doing.

Does fourth help us? Sure, more revenue, whatever, but I can’t say I’m convinced. It didn’t help Newcastle and United this year, and it didn’t really help us in 2022. Arsenal built most of this team whilst they were in the Europa. I certainly don’t think it helps us enough to make the payoff worthwhile.

Which we haven't yet qualified for. Again our priorities are different. Yours is stopping Arsenal, mine is building Tottenham.

Again: we’d have to lose to one of the worst teams in PL history. If that happens, we fully deserve it lol.

And I fully reject the idea I don’t want Spurs to succeed.

And again we have 2 chances to secure Europe not one, and neither is guaranteed. You keep saying it as if we can just pick and choose when to turn up. This is the Premier league..... We can't!

Bigger picture is also the confidence this will give the players for next season when we play ‘the best’. We need desperately to build a winning mentality for every game and not just the ones supporters pick and choose. Totally get the anti arsenal perspective but spurs come first

I enjoy the banter, that’s part of being a football fan. We give them some banter, they give us some banter. That’s all part of the experience.

Some fans don’t seem to be able to tolerate that anymore.

I’m not saying this at all. I’m saying if we lose to a team that’s won three games and conceded a record amount of goals then that’s a separate calamity.

Maybe we create two match threads for this. Those that want us to lose can go to their own thread.

Going to watch as a neutral tonight and try to enjoy the match for what it is. If we win and get one step closer to top four, great. If we lose, City probably pip Arsenal to the title. Mentally I've checked out this season, more excited about what next season holds after another pre-season.
