Looked up quite a few players and minutes played seems a bit of an excuse to me a lot of the Liverpool players had played more minutes that our team.

Well, in fairness, most of our defence had been reserves or completely forgotten about until November, and now they play twice every week.

Indeed but even porro vs trent Diaz vs solanke I've just seen so many banging on about rotation and how tired they are, how many games they played this season just isn't really true either they played more or it's very close.

But then what is different from this season to last season squad wise? (right now I mean)

Gray? He's 18 and still developing.

Bergvall? He's also 18 and further behind Gray as he was playing in Sweden and hasn't been playing pro football long let alone elite level.

Solanke.

That's it.

Just Solanke.

And that's been great cause we have certainly improved in attack.

But we are still weak at the back because we didn't do anything about:

FB cover
6/DM improvement
Van de Ven alternative.
Capable GK back up to push Vicario.

We didn't change ANYTHING!!
We didn’t change anything, yet we seem to be getting worse…

Just home from the game and not much more to add, as it has all been said here today.
Who knows what the future holds for Ange or Danny Boy, because at some point, change will happen and something will give.
In the meantime, we the fans will continue to experience highs and lows. That's the nature of been a Spurs fan

Hope ye all have a great Christmas and looking forward to chatting here again on Boxing Day. COYS 💙💙

Basically my current feeling is that the first 10 games were an anomaly; we played a different style that teams weren't ready for, had a kind fixture list, whatever.

But in the 45 league games since our PPG is 1.35.
It was 1.35 from game 11 to game 38 last season.
Our PPG this season so far is also 1.35.

We're not getting worse. This mediocrity is our level, and has been since those first ten games under Postecoglou.

Oh it was you?!
Mate, I thought you were better than that? Fuck me.
I can’t stand that our coach sends the boys out for a beating. Obviously Liverpool are a good side and obviously we should tweak to account for it. Instead the “go blow for blow” tactic wasn’t going to work and when 5-1 down, I’d rather they prove to Ange he needs to adapt (not change everything.).

if you need to be 4-0 to win a game you are not a clever coach. I’m bored of knowing how it goes and paying money to see it

Missed the game at a family party. What a lovely game to miss.

What an utterly barmy season we are having. If you don’t laugh about it, you’ll cry.

Levy will have the cavalry lined up for January 1st, don’t worry.

We conceded six and everyone in the ground was largely unbothered. Very weird
Expectations have come crashing down, is the truth of it. Wouldn’t have felt like this in the Poch years. Now we’ve lost Kane there’s no pressing urgency to be competitive. We’ll just drift along.

Yeah but we didn’t want that and sacked the managers doing it that way (Mourinho/Conte).

Ange is literally doing it the way we wanted it done. Now we’re saying we want it done the way Mourinho and Conte got sacked for doing it.

It very rarely just all comes together overnight. This takes time even for managers like Pep and Klopp who started with better teams and were given more backing to buy players.
Sorry that’s bollocks.Conte and Mourinho weren’t doing it that way. They were merely playing defensive football.
Ange is not doing it the way we want either. Because we want attacking football doesn’t mean we want everyone bombing forward like a bunch of primary kids chasing the ball like a swarm of bees with nobody giving a monkeys about defending our goal.

Regardless of what football philosophy you use to (re)build a team you start from the back and then down the spine of the team. It’s not rocket science. If you stop the opposition from scoring you are half way to winning. On the other hand if you concentrate on scoring goals while ignore defending no matter how many goals you score it will always be a toss up if you win or lose. The former gives the team confidence the latter gives them the jitters.
We scored 3 goals against the best defense in the PL yet lost comprehensively because we (Ange, the coaching staff, the players) do not pay enough attention to the defensive side of the game. Look at Slot’s Liverpool. They are entertaining and score bags of goals but they keep control of the game by always keeping 4 behind the ball. Why because Slot understands that teams that win titles nearly always have one of the top 2 or 3 defensive records and not necessarily the best attacking stats.
Of course rebuilding the team will not happen overnight but that doesn’t mean while we do it we should be as cavalier as we are at the moment because if we continue like this Ange will be out the door before he can complete his rebuild. Then we will be starting all over again with a new manager.

Or who else this season has scored 3 against Liverpool? Just Newcastle.
Or, have Liverpool scored 12 goals in 3 consecutive games this year? No.
So where I’m going is that even with some players who could easily be upgraded we score goals against whoever. So Ange’s game as far as goals is proven. Let’s get the cover for what’s failing and see how he does for it.
If Levy fails to get the cheque book out, then Ange should maybe go. And we start all over again and lack enough players suitable for new manager.
If he gets players in where it’s agreed they’re needed then Ange should be given til end of season and have a look then.
Either way we need upgrade in many places and cover for the injured.
Levy has left us in a bad state again. I don’t know what his plan is but guessing not to accept responsibility for the state of the football club as a team for once.
We’ll find out very soon.
Ange’s system is very similar to Pep’s and for it to work you need a DM like Rodri or Ferndandino(?) who can protect the CBs while everyone is up top scoring goals. Without that cover the defense is too exposed. It also doesn’t help if your squad is decimated by injuries and fatigue.
If we buy only one player in January it has to be a top notch DM. That will cost big bucks but an ordinary run of the mill DM will not cut it in this system in the PL.

Most of them were rested in the league cup this week.

Our manager refused to rotate Porro or Udogie even when he could.

He refused to rotate Romero or VdV when he could.

etc etc etc.

Need I go on?
And we all know the answer if he had rotated those players and lost.

And guess who else is going to be looking to buy a DM of that profile and quality in the next transfer window 🤦

Can’t agree with that. We always looked most jittery trying to see out leads. I’m glad we don’t do that anymore.

If it was so simple like you say, it wouldn’t be the case that it’s so hard to find a manager who can do it. Tactically there are trade offs everywhere. If you want to be a really attacking team the trade off is going to be defensive solidity, and it’s going to take time to work cohesively.

The way you’re describing it (starting with defense, building the spine of the team, etc) is exactly what Mourinho and Conte were trying to do and guess what? We lost patience and sacked them.

We also didn’t have the entire spine of our team in the game. Keeper, CBs, and Bentancur. Slot is doing well at the moment but he took over a very strong team that’s been in multiple CL finals and PL title fights in recent seasons. We’re nowhere near that yet.

Sounds to me like you are trying to give yourself and Ange a huge get out of jail free card there. Whoever we buy at DM will never be good enough and it will always be that one problem that is stopping Ange being successful. I believe that if Ange could pick any 11 players from any team in the world he wouldn't be able to make his style work in the Prem. Ever.
