Good result but a really odd, flat atmosphere in the ground.

I’m obviously very happy with four goals and a clean sheet but would like to see us play with a bit more urgency and tempo.

It’d be a real shame if Everton get relegated in their last season at Goodison.
Especially as we have such a good record against them....

Very controlled performance today which was pleasing. As others have said, surprised by the subdued nature of the atmosphere, I think maybe the switching ends didn’t help.

I agree with this bit*

*If instead of ‘a real shame’, you actually mean ‘funny as fuck’

Miss the buzz of early last season

I know form dropped, but come on we finished 3 places higher, playing better football and have signed some promising talent.

We won 4-0! Sonny back on score sheet, Kulusevski was class and Bissouma had a point to prove. As far as I am concerned great start to the bank holiday weekend and bring on Newcastle! Will be a tough match, but I feel we have another gear to go still.

I think maybe the lack of buzz partly came from how pre season friendly it felt on account of Everton's total no show. It felt like a training exercise for the players, and barely a football match at all.

We did a professional job against a side that I got the feeling would struggle in the Championship. The atmosphere will be totally different next game.

Only really seen MOTD highlights, but the two balls by Romero to Madders were Toby to Dele-esque.

Also lovely to see us shooting from a bit further out today.

I hope after today Ange realizes our midfield is transformed with Kulu there.

Imagine an attack with Son - Solanke - Odo up front and a midfield of Madders - Biss (Bents) - Kulu behind them. Very sexy.
Agree. He has to find a place for him in the starting XI. Easy to see he is one of our best players at the moment.

53 pages for a 4-0 win, just goes to show how many people on this site only happy when they're moaning.
Funny, but true. Think the last game was over 100 pages. See the founding members of the “Let’s Grumble about Ange Brigade and Hope he gets Sacked” have quietened up. Thank god. Sure they’ll be back if we draw or lose to the Barcodes.

The Good

- Finally, after 12 months of asking for it, AP today decided at last to go with dual 10's against a bus parking outfit. One in each half space. Hallelujah. At last. This is much more appropriate when we are going into these sorts of scenarios. Personally I thought Kulu did his thing, some quality mixed with some stumble and bumble, but at least we had some semblance of a ball player operating in tandem with Maddison between the lines. The combination play down the right still wasn't fantastic compared to the left, but it was at least above the non-existent level it usually is.

- Odobert looked fairly raw. Had some moments, particularly early on, died out pretty badly in the second half... but he provided a much needed profile the team has been crying out for. Get the ball, aggressively go at your opponent and back them up. They have to get out to you, and it opens up space for the men on the inside.

- Saw a bit more pattern variation and rotation today, with different passing angles/moves and construction. Even if it was ultimately trying to play into the same areas (wide), it wasn't just the basic straight ball to the winger, who then tries to play the runner in on the underlap. It was more combination and working it at angles.

- VDV somehow escaping a total FUBAR of the knee. That hyperextension looked horrendous. Lady luck smiled on us.

The Bad

- Everton. As an all-round performance that has to be one of the biggest piles of dog dirt ever witnessed. Bad also because it's hard to judge our level against such shocking opposition.

- Even today, couple of spells I thought we showed the bad bits regarding us lacking control, smarts, and the prone to switching off for patches in games. That set piece barrage at the end of the first half, was largely prolonged by a series of daft fouls or cock ups. Second half we had 5-10 mins where they had chances due to us having several deciding it was time to stop running. Got to stop that, even on the days where it is easy. Especially on those days in fact.

- Yeah we got four, might have got more, but still thought there was plenty of moments of lack of quality and ruthlessness at the top end of the pitch that simply need to get better. Even that last goal Son did his best to barbecue it with a terrible first touch.

The Ugly

- Brennan Johnson.

Overall a very comfortable day to get our season started. We had a bit more oomph to us today. Everton you can't avoid were the absolute drizzling shits. Lets see what next week has in store....

I think also because not live on TV in the UK so less people too watch. They'll all be back for the next game!

Impressive performance overall. A few frantic moments but it could have been more than four.

Everton looked very poor - except for their young full back. Loads of injuries to deal with, but even so... that's 3-0 and 4-0 now.

Odebert looked a threat. Sometimes 2 or 3 defenders on him. If that occurs in other matches, it should leave more space for others like Maddison to slip passes through. Shame Solanke couldn't play. This would have been the ideal game to get off the mark.

Oh, and Efan Ekoku on commentary is still dreadful. Just so negative and dull.

I have never understood the fuss about Calvert-Lewin and yesterday confirmed my belief he is very over rated. He seemed knackered by halftime.

His replacement Beto ? just wanted to foul the nearest Spurs player. If those two are their only strikers they are going down at last.

Perhaps it is me but Everton seemed almost never to challenged Romero for the ball when he was moving forward with it. Even when he was well within the Spurs half. I wonder why ?

Given what’s happened in the last 2 seasons and with the last Newcastle away game happening very recently I’d say that a draw would represent a more than decent result.

Personally, i think we would have benefitted from swapping the wingers in game.

I do think brennan works better off the left.
