Watching MOTD highlights now, astounding that Vicario didn’t get sent off.

Some of his decision making is horrendous.

I said in one of my last posts yesterday or the day before that we need our home crowd to really get behind the players and give them a bit of confidence, and look how good they can be when they take the hand brake off, this team can really purr when they have some belief in themselves.

I'm not meaning to dig out the home crowd, I go as often as I can and understand it's bloody expensive so the frustration when you pay alot of money and the performance isn't the best is understandable, but at home we need to make that place somewhere no team wants to ever come.

Seeing players who clearly have been struggling with confidence like Maddison and Johnson play with a bit more freedom today was so good to watch, the whole team played with a bit of swagger today to be fair, this should be the game we build on as the actual start to the season, could be a good one if we push on from this.

Damn we were out possessed 🤭
Good (in a way). I don't think we are as effective when we have easy, slow possession in the opposition's half. Let them have a bit more of the ball, commit more players forward, use the space and counter attack more.

Probably not a coincidence that we looked better today than we have for some time.

Tickets sold I'd imagine.
Arsenal used to claim every season ticket whether they turned up or not so they'd claim full house with huge areas of empty seats, we only quoted the season tickets that came through the turnstiles. I'd assumed we still do that.

He reminds me of the Octopus.

Good shot stopper, but I think long term he will be a liability. A calm, sure footed keeper has always been the success of any football club, including ours.

That was our best performance in a very long time. Brentford are a decent team as well. No coincidence that it happened on a day when Maddison and Bentancur finally remembered how to play, they were both excellent as was Kulusevski. Only concerns were Vicario who's looking very wobbly right now, although he made one unreal save, and the fact we were still pretty wasteful infront of goal. We should have had at least 5 with the chances we created. Fingers crossed we can kick on from here.

watched the replay. still wasteful at the front and dodgy at the back but at least shown some improvement. a long long way to go to catch up with our rivals like Chelski and Scousers

A few things:

Brentford's goal was excellent. Same fast start as vs City.
The Spurs response was also excellent and should have probably been more than just 2 goals.
Vicario probably felt he had to be commanding and decided to come for everything. Mixed success but better than going halfway then stopping. Paul Robinson on co-comm said the same.
The handball outside the box was strange - as was the refereeing of the situation, including the yellow cards for Brentford.
That incident seemed to lead to the ref not giving Spurs any free kicks for clear fouls for a little while.
Third goal was very well worked and well taken.

What seems to have been missed on SC is that for the first time this season we didn't face a low block, that's why there was so much space and freedom for our forwards to play.

As Franks said in his post match presser 'We came to play football' and the incontrovertible truth is that possession was circa 50-50. Our lowest of the season by far.

Brentford gave us space and yes, we used it well, but the idea that this match went so well was entirely because we suddenly played better football is a weird fan fantasy .

But given the negativity surrounding some of our recent performances and results, the response is understandable, isn't it? It’s certainly not time to start popping champagne corks—after all, we beat Everton 4-0 not long ago, only to lose to Newcastle and Arsenal. But there were still positives to take away.

Heading into the Man U match next week, the mood will be much better than if we hadn't won yesterday. It gives us a foundation to build on.

Someone mentioned recently that a big part of Maddison’s game is receiving the ball on the half turn and beating the first man as he receives it, and his lack of form coincided with him always receiving the ball behind him or square on to the first man.
It was so noticeable today how many times he did get a pass in to him in just the right area to turn his man and get away from him, moving us forward.
I wonder if that’s something they’ve specifically worked on this week or Brentford didn’t realise they shouldn’t get so tight to him.

He said in the interview after the game on spurs review that they knew Brentford mark you man for man so if you could wriggle free from your man with the ball it would really open things up.
