Great work. Great day.
I'd say RN, as at the start of last season, as goes Maddison so goes Ange's plan.

Vital really.
Entirely fair point, but imo the lack of a good creative midfielder's been a problem since Eriksen left. It's why Maddison felt so revelatory last year. Hopefully Bergvall adds another dimension.

A good performance overall. The difference was we moved the ball forward much quicker; less back and sideward passing. Really should have scored a lot more goals. A mixture of poor decision making and not quite getting the run of the ball stopped us running up a cricket score. Still the fact that we are getting the ball in the box more often and creating chances will give us more confidence moving forward. We keep playing like that the goals will come.
Once again disappointed with Ange’s use of the bench. Didn’t understand the substitutions he made and should have brought on at least a couple of the youngsters earlier if only for fresh legs. Moore for Son was an obvious one half way through that second half for me.
Some very good performances. Madison MOM but I thought Udogie was excellent both in attack and defense. Vicario’s save at 2-1 was excellent and so important but overall he was very shaky.
The performance and especially the result should give the team a lot of confidence that if we keep playing like that the results will come.

Yes, long-term Bergvall must be viewed as that central cog. And early signs are that in time he'll get there and then some!

I don't think it's a coincidence that Maddison's return to form coincides with Udogie's return to fitness/form
The interchange is much better on that side when those two link up.

My personal takeaways from today:

1) Big Dom is gonna be a beast for us, as he starts to click with the others.
2) Kulu is undroppable.
3) Madders improving.
4) Thrilled for Brennan.
5) Ange tactics starting to pay dividends.
6) Brentford created fuckall -- but threatened many times thanks to us gifting them the ball all over the pitch. Shocking at times.
and
7) THIS IS THE BIG ONE: Vicario, while a great shot-stopper, is an absolute liability and needs to have a rocket up the ass. We should've been down to ten men from his colossal brainfart outside the box, but he also nearly handed them a goal when he faffed around inside the six-yard box. Rush of blood to the brain time and time again. Very troubling.
8) We deserved to win (much the better side). But we also deserved to lose (how VAR didn't send Vic off we'll never know).

I think it would only have been a yellow and free kick. He didn't deny a clear opportunity

Not a Huge difference to previous games but put the ball away… also more progressive passing

To be fair that was a goal saving save from Vic at 2-1

VAR is not allowed to intervene.
Its not a new thing.

Maddison was fantastic. Reckon that was his best game for us, even including his purple patch at the beginning of last season.

Absolutely unbelievable player when he's on his game.

Nice to see Maddison back in form.
Its pretty evident though Sonny has lost a yard of pace. I would rather see him subbed in these kind of games in end.

We had less possession than Brentford but it didn’t feel like it.

And I think it’s because we didn’t wait to try and open them up, either we created a chance straight away or we immediately pressed them on the turnover.

It meant the game was played a lot in Brentford’s third.

All our goals came from turnovers and counters because it’s much easier to score when you have space and are attacking with momentum.

The best way to score is to create a bit of chaos.

every manager that has Son doesn't drop him or take him off if tight because Son is world class, he is. If he wasn't Asian this would be recognized. He will get you a goal or assist even if poor. Hes our only world class player. Every manger, Conte, Jose Ange leave him on because World class can affect a game regardless. How we question this baffles me, to what bring on Werner. Son has been faltering a bit but ask any team in the prem which payer from Spurs you‘d take its Son. He is a spurs legend and he’s still relatively young. He will play as long as Cristiano does. At least we should respect his level. There’s a reason he never got bids from Real or the top tier and it’s not his ability. He also clearly loves Spurs through and through and I am proud to have him at Spurs.

That’s not a red card offense. Would have been a yellow if ref spotted it. Hence, why VAR didn’t intervene. It was appalling announcers working the game didn’t comprehend that and kept going on about us being lucky VAR didn’t get involved and not understanding why.

Son is getting older, he’s not the player he was but we know he’s still capable of great things. He looked knackered by half time - strange he didn’t get subbed when we went 3-1 up.
Vicario needs sorting out before he becomes more of a liability, he gives me at least three heart attacks per match. But what a great stopper!
Special mentions for Udogie and Bentancur who both had understated performances underpinned by their prodigious work ethic.
I loved the Brennan Johnson chant. I actually felt quite emotional for the lad.
A good result against a decent opponent.

Something happened in training this week.
There was a key bit of communication within it all.
Because there was a fluency and urgency missing from previous games.
They were much more speedy and ruthless around the pitch….and got our goals.

Im so glad they were all taking more shots. Even half chances.
We just need to create that many chances each week….and improve our conversion into more goals.

either we created a chance straight away or we immediately pressed them on the turnover.
THIS is the secret to Ange's tactics.

I don't think he wants to watch us pass the ball around sideways in the attacking end. Get on with the attack, and if it fails, immediately try to win the ball back.
