Just watched goals on Sunday and the set up for 2nd and 3rd goal was actually 325. Aurier is as high as Son. The first goal Kane is CM. There’s certainly a lot of thought going into this.
That's what 3241/343/3421 is really. It's very hard to defend with a back four because we'll often get 5v4 in the attacking third. Aurier was free three of four times at the back post from crosses that we didn't pick out.

That's been the case for all three matches. At kick off, yes the players look like they line up 4231, but they don't actually spend game time playing as such. They defend with two lines of four giving each other double support, and two strikers, and attack with three CBs, two CMs and a front line of five stretching the defence.

Also the game is in flux, you take what space you can get when you have the ball ,the shape changes according to the situation..its like water finding its spot.Jose also is finding out who can run,who can play both ways etc. So you start with a plan but it always changes well with some managers

It would be obvious even to Stevie Wonder where our issues lie, and i am confident that Jose will get the defence sorted either through training or the transfer market.

It's been the reason for our decline this past year.

Were you there or watching a stream? I only ask because some of our passing in the final third yesterday was terrible but didn’t look quite so bad later on tv. It’s all about viewing angles I guess.

Lost count of the number of times Son and Dele passed the ball straight past Kane into touch. Son in particular had a rare off day, where things just didn’t quite come off.
I was there.

Again, it wasn’t just about yesterday. I think Kane’s mobility and intensity may have dropped a little over the past couple of years and I think he is adapting his game accordingly. I think we may see him dropping deeper and deeper as time passes.

He doesn't appear any slower - he was slower when he was 18. I don't think he's less intense, in the sense of being focused and concentrated.

I do suspect that he is less physically committed, i.e., reckless. Too many ankle injuries in quick succession.

I doubt very much that he has modeled himself in any way on Berbatov, but as Kane gets older and more mature, he hustles when hustle is required, rather than racing about and trying to be everywhere. Berbatov had a decent turn of speed when he chose to use it, but he never hurried unless there was a good reason. Like Berbatov, Kane's movement and sense of space are so good that often he doesn't need to hustle - he's already close to where he needs to be before the ball arrives.

Not a bad comparison really, Berbatov was, if anything, even more languid in style, but both are/were very good footballers.

It's not obvious to all. Some think it's the defensive personnel. Some think it's the defensive organisation. Some think it's the absence of an effective defensive midfield shield for the defence. Some thought it was playing a very high line, until we stopped doing that when Mourinho arrived, but kept giving away messy goals.

I think the defence has collective mentality problems. They don't work as a seamless team, geeing each other up and reinforcing the sense of "they shall not pass", as they did when we had Rose-Vertonghen-Alderweireld-Walker playing nearly every week.

I also think Mourinho needs to resolve the double pivot. That doesn't just mean which two of them play, it means how do they divide the roles of positioning, tackling, blocking, passing and advancing with the ball. Dier, Winks, Sissoko, Wanyama and Skipp all have differing balances of skills. The manager needs to work out two or three pairs who can complement each other, win the ball, deal with opposition attacks and start the transition when we get the ball.

Our attackers are quicksilver, intuitive players, plus Kane who anchors everything. As long as they are confident, they can be relied upon to score goals. Mourinho just needs to get their heads right and put them on the pitch. Central midfield and defence require serious tactical analysis and familiarity with the players. That will take time.

Our defending is atrocious irrespective of our midfield.
