The point is that we didn't dominate possession (54%) and they had more shots in total and more shots on target.

Most of their shots were outside the box and were not likely to score so statistics etc do not give full story. My biggest gripe today was how poor the referee was. But nobody does anything about it. He should be dropped. Bloke had not a clue and did nothing about all the cynical fouls.

Defence aside, my main complaint is our final ball on the break. At least 4 or 5 times Son, Dele or Sissoko overhit routine passes on the edge of the Bournemouth box when we were on the break in brilliant positions. We just pissed away good chance after good chance. We really can't afford to keep doing that.

A bit rusty, we are used to sideways passing around the box

Stats really don't tell the story of that match. Bournemouth had a shoot on sight policy and took countless shots from 25-30 yards whereas we had far, far more clear cut chances and excellent moves against them on the break.

It's true we didn't dominate possession, and that's in part due to our new style of direct football. We aren't playing possession football anymore. Though I agree we need to learn how to control and manage games a lot better in winning positions by holding onto the ball more.

The problem with the defense is a combination of a wobbly mentality and the lack of protection from midfield, IMO. I trust that Jose will sort out the former, but we'll need to invest in a top DM to fix the latter. It needs to happen in January.
Sometimes I think with the defence it's a self fulfilling prophecy. Conceding goals in any manner, deflections, set pieces etc. reduces confidence and in turn makes defending more panicked.

This is why set pieces are so crucial, and we dealt with them mostly OK today. But as soon as Wilson whipped in the free kick the panic set in, seemed like a mental thing.

Except for the first 10 min and the last 5 min, we played very well
We were in control most of the 2nd half

Dier was trying too hard in the 1st half. His passes were poor. Think he was told to sit and protect and leave the passing to others in the 2nd half.
Tanguy was a bit of a hit and miss .
Sanchez Verts Toby were brilliant . Son and Kane were a bit more muted.
Ali was not direct enough

Its been 12 days with Jose, been impressed.

Not use to seeing Jose so calm on the sideline

Dele is back to playing in advanced areas of the pitch, instead of dropping deep to help out in CM. I think it's that simple, rather than a change in form (although Mourinho may have have given him a bit of a mental boost). Hopefully it continues!

Wow. What a stadium. Good atmosphere. And lovely sausage rolls and pies.

Great to see a win. We left at least 3 goals out there - but we're too easy to play against some times.

Thought Toby and Tanguay were good. And Jan's tackle was great at the end.

Love you Spurs. As does my son now. Operation blackmail complete

I think Son started off well defensively but I've seen the same thing happen now two weeks in a row. We get to 3-0, mentally we start to switch off, but at the point where as a team, I presume are instructed, we sit back and decide to protect what we have is the same time where, however good they have been for the first 60-70 mins, on the left side Son and Alli switch off and desert their defensive duties (and today started wasting counter attacks late on) and on the right side Aurier and Sissoko switching off and getting caught out of position and making errors. When you throw in Dier being anonymous, Moura works hard when the ball is in his vincinty but has no positional discipline when it comes to tracking back, and Lo Celso feeling his way into new surroundings on top of that its asking for trouble. If you're going to sit back it has to be as a unit, having a couple of counter attack options yes, but you cant just be sitting back and inviting pressure and only five or six players actually contributing defensively. Whatever the scenario, score, stage of the game, you will run into trouble.
In the first half he was just running straight at their full-back and was easily dummied out of the way. He's the master of the lazy leg and selling himself too easy. I wish I knew how to create gifs or clips to show just how bad it was. Some of it is laziness and some of it is just him being a bad defender with little-to-no awareness.

We've been getting away with it so far in the three games under Mourinho, but I doubt we can keep getting away with it. I think dropping Alli a bit deep out of possession and going 433 could help and it will still allow us to keep the 3241 shape offensively.

Bit of both I reckon. This is clearly Dele's best position and he's also been playing the ball a lot quicker and making more instinctive passes, whereas under Poch he would play it safe and hang onto the ball for far too long.

However, I think Jose has also got into his head a bit. He's playing with freedom and trying all sorts of tricks and dribbles with a confidence that I haven't really seen in him for years. I think Jose has told him that he's one of the best players in the world and he needs to start showing it again.

Wilson from Bournemouth Is one hell of an attacking threat. Hes a good player stepped up again this season. Especially in the absence of brooks.
