And I bet that most of the players slept quite easily last night, while most of us didn't (me anyway). They will be back on social media today with the usual nonsense about how they are in it together and we pick ourselves up etc etc. TBH, its all a bunch on nonsense. The rot is there for all to see and Poch has lost the respect of enough of them to cause a problem. I am one of Pochs biggest supporters, but enough is enough. He has to take a long hard look at himself, along with the players and either sort this shit out sharpish, or move on.
At the end of the day, it's the fans who suffer the most
I agree that it’s us fans who suffer the most during all of this.

I think you missed my point which was he is 23 and we bought him for £40 million so he is the future of the team unlike the 30 year olds we played last night, if you think he's not good enough that's another matter but Alderwiereld and Vertonghen won't be here much longer so we are going to have to do it eventually.
As for Foyth I'm fine with him but I just gave one example, the same applies to him though because there are fans who don't rate him but eventually we will have to play these guys, or new ones if necessary, and it's worth remembering we lost 7-2 without them playing so would they have done worse? This is my point about rebuilding, we are going to have to be brave and make these decisions and that comes with problems and setbacks so our supporters are going to get on board with that, this may not be our year but that doesn't mean we're a busted flush and it's all over.
I think you have missed my point in that he is only the future if he is good enough and at the moment he isn't.

I think we’ll scrape through the group regardless. 4 points from the two red star games. Loss in Germany. 3 points at home to Olympiacos. Scrape through. Again. ....sigh.

There was back and forth, pro and con, re Dele.
It's all according what you expect from him in quality and fight.
It's been a while since we saw the great promise from him. I think of all our players the potential was there from him. I expected more yesterday.
We had space he had space.

No I got your point but I didn't think it was relevant in the context of my point, Toby and Jan will not be here long term so we will have to play him but should we wait until they go and then just start playing him then.
We are going to have to make these choices otherwise we end up at the cliff edge and that is much worse and that is my point, you cannot rebuild seemlessly because there will always be a downturn so managing the downturn is paramount.
For the record though I think Sanchez is a good player and will be here for the long term.

That was their plan all along, to lull us into a false sense of security, by underperforming against us the Audi Cup a couple of months ago at their place, in case we were drawn together in the same CL group, and look how it turned out. As Blackadder said to Baldrick, they did have a very cunning plan indeed !!!

I honestly couldn't believe my eyes when I kept seeing Aurier closing down their RIGHT BACK! What are you doing, man? You're a right back yourself. Maybe he got confused and thought he was playing for Bayern. Such a liability and honestly, Aurier falling on Alaba had malice in it. You don't bring your legs down after a jump like that. Aurier, as he was before he joined us, will always have that poor, arrogant attitude. Needs to be shoved out the door as soon as possible. Negatively affects the whole squad with his on field antics. Can't even imagine what he is like off it.

While I'm not a big fan of Aurier I really thought he tried to jump over Alaba. It looked like Alaba was skidding in the same direction as Aurier was flying
I dont honestly think it was intended even though he has shown in the past he can lose it

This one will live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons, and one we will never be able to forget even though we want to, especially like many of us if we can say we were actually there to witness us concede more goals at home in one match than I have ever seen us concede.
In my lifetime the following nightmare results are forever etched on my memory, which can't be undone.
Derby 8 Spurs 2
Liverpool 7 Spurs 0
Spurs 0 A**enal 5
Spurs 1 Chelsea 6
Newcastle 7 Spurs 1.

and now this one has joined that grisly looking list, where comical and suicidal defending and tactics on that scale is something haven't seen from us in a long while....this was reminiscent of that pathetic surrender on the last day away at Newcastle. Fortunately, I was not at any of those games above to witness them person, but I was with this one, and this has rnow replaced my first hand witnessing of us being rinsed 5-1 away at Wimbledon in 1991 as the biggest defeat I'd seen live and in person and that was at Plough Lane. I've seen some real highs and lows live at the lane and on away days but this is the lowest of the lows.

Thanks a f*cking bunch Spurs, this all happened the night before my other Half's birthday, and it is one that is a big milestone birthday if that ain't bad enough, and she was there to witness this horror show with me, so when I think back in years to come, this sorry shitshow will always be associated with it. I'm trying my best to put on a happy face for her and not let it drag me down but it's one hell of an effort and challenge.
I'm sparing a thought too for the poor f*ckers who it may have been their first visit ever to a Spurs game, what a memory !!

Forgive me for jumping around a bit.

The 8-2 game v Derby was an indication that the Nicholson era was over and relegation was looming.

The 7-0 game was a promoted team finding its feet playing against the best team in Europe. Ardiles and co were exposed like the Aridles coached team when he was manager. It also sped up the development of the Roberts-Miller partnership which was the foundation for success of the 80s.

The Arsenal game - Mark Kendall. Need I say more.

The Chelsea and Newcastle losses were mediocre teams losing games against superior opposition which happens from time to time.

Last night and the Newcastle game two seasons ago deomstrate a question of overall mentality at the club. Like Arsenal being hammered 8-2 at United and 10-2 by Bayern, over two legs admittedly. At the time you don't really notice the significance, but in time the games are used and will be used as a reminder that the cracks were there and evident to all who know what to look for or understand trends in the game.

This was an embarrassing result, but not my lowest point as a Spurs fan. However, we are at a fork in the road, one leads to mid-table mediocrity, the other leads to a rebuild and sustained top four. Which path do we take? I know which one we should.

I can take the result if we learn from it and rebuild. If not, then there will be more nights in the Europa than in the CL if not out of Europe altogether.

And again, if you take cup competitions lightly or don't hammer home the importance of finishing third versus fourth then results like last night will become inevitable.

It also shows you the attitude of a team/club like Bayern, Juve, Real, Liverpool where winning is an expectation and what that expectation does to players and managers. There is a relentless appetite to be the best to hammer teams to chase down teams. United had it and have lost it. Liverpool had it, lost it and now have it back. Arsenal had it and lost it. Bayern had it in Europe, but have kept in on the hope front and are rebuilding their team (did we scout them at all this season?).

Could we have gone after players like Salah, Robertson, Wijnaldum who who would have injected youth and pace into our team at the right time?

Remind me again what our players and coach have won?

I want this team to win. I want this manager to win, but I fear we have peaked in terms of being a short-term challenger for the EPL and CL.

I dont think he met to stamp him but you can be dismissed for unintentional dangerous play. It was an awkward slide by Alaba as well but a different ref might have seen it differently.

I think you also take your reputation with you so that comes into play too.I wouldnt fault the ref for taking that into account in the minute it happened, ultimately the studs came right down on Alaba

Bayern have beaten Barca 7-0 on aggregate and they beat Arsenal 5-1 home and away. We're not the first to be humiliated by them. Playing tough teams without a defensive midfielder is always asking for trouble though.

I agree with that but what about Levy’s role in all this mess

Does Poch carry the can for everything as he’s rolled out as the spokesman on his fat contract

What about Levy and the 2 non existent transfer windows etc etc. Always 1 common denominator in every one of our turmoils and that’s Danny Boy year after year....
Well unfortunately he's going nowhere and I agree with your point, but who really knows what goes on behind closed doors. But the owners of any business, always stay well clear, when the shit is hitting the fan. Yeah, he should have been backed in two transfer windows, but he wasn't and we stayed somewhat in tact. He did get backed this summer with the guys he wanted and it's worse than it ever was. Something has to give, soon

If you believe the ITKs on the subject there were funds available to him but the players he wanted weren't. So he, Poch, decided to stand pat rather than to add players who weren't his preferred targets.
