Just saw a report in World Soccer talk that Spurs are scheduled to face Dortmund in Pittsburgh on July 25. I assume there will be other Spurs matches in the US. (Liverpool are facing Dortmund, Man United, and Man City).

Can't imagine going to see Spurs this summer, given that half the squad will likely be on holiday. I know the club has to make money, and wants to build their presence in the US, but the timing just seems odd - WC, shortened transfer window, etc.

It seems were taking part in the International Champions Cup again. As we're also supposed to face AC Milan over there. Which is a change to our policy of going American every other year, US one summer rest of the world the next. I find it rather strange that we don't take advantage of peak Son-mania and head to South Korea and Asia this summer.

Every club will be doing their normal pre season schedule regardless of World Cup. Us and city will probably be squads hit the hardest with likely 13-15 at WC. Still be a chance to see the kids.

Son's quite possibly going to play in two different international tournaments this summer, the World Cup and the Asian Games, so he probably won't be with us at any point in pre-season. I guess we'd sooner go next year and actually take him with us.

And he needs to win one of those tournaments to avoid military service so the club will definitely release him for both. We might not see Son next season until early to mid October after we give him a couple weeks holiday and he trains a few weeks with us.

Personally would rather us go nowhere and play some games in the new stadium before the season but i guess it probably wont be ready in time.

I think the 2002 squad got exemptions for making the semis of the WC. But Asian Games definitely his easiest option for the exemption.

I suspect it has a lot to do with Nike as our current sponsor, NFL at the lane next year and the imminent naming rights deal - which the tour points to being a US based company.

Pretty sure the transfer window isn't shorter this summer. Still 12 weeks, but opens and closes earlier.
From a literal stand point - you are correct the "window" is not shorter. But from a practical stand point, the window is much shorter this year.

First, the start of the window is not important - clubs can, and do, sign players before the window officially opens. The opening of the window simply represents when the paperwork can be submitted, and the player can officially join the new club. But, there is nothing about when clubs can negotiate with other clubs or players. So, when you move the end of the transfer window up, you are effectively shrinking the window for getting players in during that window.

Second, with the World Cup - any transfers that involve players in the WC will effectively be limited to a few weeks before those players go to their national team camp, and start up again a few weeks after they are done. Those are tight deadlines to get complex negotiations completed.

Shame the stadium won’t be ready. A glamour friendly would have been nice just before we play in the community shield.

This was reported on Reddit from an ESPN leak - pinch of salt, and all that:

  • 7/25 AS Roma vs Tottenham Hotspur (Qualcomm Stadium)
  • 7/28 Barcelona vs Tottenham Hotspur (Rose Bowl)
  • 7/31 Tottenham Hotspur vs AC Milan (US Bank Stadium)

Qualcomm = San Diego, CA
Rose Bowl - Pasadena, CA
US Bank Stadium - Minneapolis, MN

Those dates, and teams were confirmed today.

Two games on the West Coast should help a little - they can keep the same training facilities for a few days instead of moving.
