Tottenham have quietly announced deals for Marcel Lavinier and Toni Omole. Lavinier, 19, was released by Chelsea over the summer, and plays predominantly as a right back. He can play for England or Portugal, and made 10 Premier League 2 appearances for Chelsea last season.

20-year-old Omole can play as a left back or centre back, and can also play for two countries – England and Nigeria. He was let go by Arsenal this summer, meaning Tottenham are taking chances on two youngsters from their local rivals.

Signing players for the u23 to bolster numbers as most of the decent ones will go out on loan i suspect

why? I mean what’s at stake for u23s? Is this an opportunity to see what they are like for low fee and potential sell on?

Absolutely and with a large chunk going out on loan it presents chances to do just that.

Plus it means we don't have to shoehorn players into positions they are not familiar with and stunt their development
