Spurs set to offer Holtby and Dawson to beat Man Utd and Southampton to Villa's Vlaar

The facts are that we have an abundance of midfielders some whom are going to be unhappy with not getting a start every week. That's a fact.

We are in desperate need of a center half, so in general terms this would be a good trade. Vlaar has played exceptionally well for Villa and has had a good WC. He has PL experience and is in my opinion less injury prone and a better defender than both Dawson and Chiriches.

Though it may be made up tosh, the idea (like the Davies / Vorm / Siggy deal) makes sense. Those who feel that Holtby is irreplaceable in a Poch midfield are just not looking at the bigger picture sometimes. We are not a Club rich and overflowing with ready cash to buy at the very top of the player food chain and Vlaar in my opinion would be a definite upgrade on what we already have.

If proof were ever needed of that fact then anyone who witnessed the Seattle and Toronto games were all that were really needed.

Well Holtby is not one of those
who will be unhappy not getting a start every week.
He is putting himself into Poch's field of vision though.
The assessment of Vlaar I agree with.
No-one has said that Holtby is irreplaceable.
You made that up as a straw man to knock over.
It's the linking of the two deals that we are questioning.
Clubs without too much money
can't afford to waste emerging talent.
I put Holtby in that catagory and would give him another year to stake his claim.

I think Holtby has played well in the early pre-season tour, and i see him in action live at CenturyLink Field. At his age and if he does not get a regular start i cannot see him wanting to stick around, Capoue being in a similar position along with Carroll.

If we lost either (for arguments sake) we could still filed a side with Paulinho, Sandro, Lennon, Lamela, Eriksen, Bentaleb, and Townsend as midfielders.

We currently need to replace Dawson, have an injury prone Kaboul, Vlad and Verts being out two go to CB's. Where do we really need to strengthen and where can we shed some cost to do so? We can only select from a twenty five man squad so with ten midfielders (i think?) that is one area where the Club is surplus to requirements whoever that may be?

I am in the minority here but I see lots of options in midfield . We already have 2 holding midfielders Sandro and Capoue then we have Dembele, Eriksen, Paulinho, Bentaleb, Lamela, Carroll, Townsend , Chadli and even Lennon. In central defence we have an under performing Vertonghen ( assuming he stays ) , an unconvincing Chriches ( assuming he stays ), an injury prone Kaboul and Dawson who we cannot surely keep. Plus Velkjovic who may turn out to be our best. My opinion is we need Vlaar more than Holtby.

I agree with your first sentence

I've warmed to Holtby. Not because he always seems so happy (if anything that annoys me), but because he has a good attitude, and offers us something that none of our other midfielders do - a combination of tenacity and inventiveness. Vlaar is just a bit Vblaah.

Holtby is easily worth 12 million and Dawson is still worth 5-6 million. I can't see Levy buying a 29 year-old Vlarr at 18-20 million as what the paper says would amount to (Holtby 12m, Dawson 5m, plus cash.

Vlaar is a smokescreen. No way either Dawson or Holtby go to Villa. Well, maybe Holtby.

Same as the bid accepted from Palace for Siggy IMO. How much is Benteke worth now? Is there any other deal that Villa are involved in that this can help?

Ah, I see what you did there Daily Express. Now that we have finally made our first swap deal for the first time ever under ENIC, you're jumping at any chance to claim the next one is soon to follow, no matter how stupid, nonsensical and utter bollocks it could possibly be.

I agree, Dawson was terrible against second-rate Toronto; and who else do we have at C.B?
Vertonghen will obviously start, but he needs a capable partner alongside him. All of you 'he's not good enough for us' posters maybe should take a hard look at the state of our defence, plus who is available out there right now to buy.
We are leaking goals against MLS teams for christ sake....

Totally agree. I know they are only friendlies and the general idea is to raise levels of fitness but we can still be professional whilst going about it.

Dawson was woeful when he came on and i'd have to say that Rose was still out of touch with the movement of the players in front of him. We are indeed in need of a CB to play with Kaboul, Verts and Chiriches.
