I think the worst thing would be media criticism of players.
The second worst at this point is probably to constantly yell at the players behind closed doors, as some are suggesting.

I have been around a few teams when managers were under pressure and despite what was said in the press the players reacted differently in private and especially in training.

There will be players who will play for the shirt or who are the consummate pros, but it only takes 1-2 senior players to lose faith and the level of training and performance in games will drop.

One club won a game when a loss would have seen the manager fired. The players celebrated the goal because it got them out of the PL relegation zone, win bonus, etc, but the mood in the dressing room and at training was bad because it had kept the hated manager in his job. The results wee inconsistent until he was subsequently fired.

Another set of players lost faith in the manager despite a famous win in the FA Cup. They all swore allegiance to him publicly and he to them, but at training the attitude was totally different. Players didn't work, international players went through the motions, the results did not equal the talent.

I have also been at a club where the results were poor and relegation was seemingly inevitable, but the players and manager had faith in each other. The work rate and attitude in training was great and the results picked up and survival achieved on the final day of the season.

I can't get my head around this team with MP and whether there is a parting of the ways coming. The signs are there that the players despite what they say no longer trust him or it is a case that age and contract situations have caught up with players. I don't know. The last year of a contract is not a fun one so I will give all our players the benefit of the doubt because it can create stress when it is unresolved.

Saturday was poor and the performance was overlooked by many because of the VAR controversy. We are getting to the point where the team, the players and the manager have to deliver results and performances. We are getting neither right now.
