Spurs will sell Eric Dier this summer unless he commits his future to the club. The England star is reluctant to sign a new deal amid concerns over reduced game-time under Jose Mourinho.

The 26-year-old wants assurances over his first-team standing but, having not started in the Premier League since before Christmas, they have not been forthcoming. It is thought that Dier would also prefer to play at centre-back as opposed to holding midfield.

I thought he saw himself as a DCM. Now he sees himself as a CB? He is a good utility player, but his illnesses and time away have really impacted his form. If he wants assurances then he needs to find a way to rediscover his former prowess. Good luck to him

Would be happy to see him stay and fight for a place as a centre back but definitely no longer good enough to play in midfield

Centre back, back up maybe. We can't afford someone that slow and reluctant to turn with the ball in midfield.

Add to that the numerous misplaced passes, and the lack of trickery.

he can't demand more time, If Vertongen can get subbed, Dier can't demand a start.

If any of this is true (doubt), then I wonder if Dier can't analyse his own performances and drop off and see that he's not in a position of luxury to demanding certain assurances with game time.

Considering how many games he’s missed due to injury and illness I’m surprised he’s being offered a new contract. I’d definitely move him on

Don't think he's in much of a position to be making any demands. Having said that though, I think he'd do much better in the shielding role in the middle of a CM3 where he wouldn't have to cover anywhere near as much ground as in a pivot. With the options we have now though it looks like he'd be a utility player at best.

I don't think that's unreasonable from him. Wants to play for us but if we won't play him, he'll want to leave. He's 26 so needs regular football. I'm sure he's not thinking "I'm so good, I should be playing every week".

Dier isn't stupid. I'd bet he knows his form is poor but probably believes he can get back to the level he was previously at and if we can't give him game time if he does that, of course he's better off moving.

Don't rate the lad as a player but think he's a good character and has potential to make a good CB.

And, if this is true, he wants to sign him for Spurs. But if he doesn’t sign a new contract, he won’t be encouraged to run down his existing deal.
Or just perhaps, Mourinho has the ability to see that Dier has regressed mightily from the player he was interested in back then? I for one expect him to be ruthless when it comes to optimizing the playing squad.

Unfortunately for Dier, injuries and loss of form has really taken its toll.

Well he certainly isn't guaranteed a first team spot so...

Dier had been so promising in the beginning, but I have always felt he was prone to lapses in concentration that proved costly, particularly when deputising at centre-back. I think a move might well do him good, even if its just a loan where he gets regular game time.

Something has got to give because he was danced around by Chelsea's midfield when we played at home. We need dynamic, fast, technical players to operate in the middle & unfortunately, he's not cutting it at the minute.

The likes of Ndombele, Winks, Lo Celso & Gedson seem to be the 4 I would look to pick up the no.6 & 8 spots, which leaves him a little surplus in there.

Hope he gets back to the kind of form he showed earlier in his career.

He was a nailed-on pick for England not so long ago and an integral part of a brilliant Spurs side too. I'm assuming he was brilliant because I genuinely can't remember him being good, it's been that long. Seems like he can be added to the list of very good defensive midfielders who were never able to reach former heights after injuries in their 20s along with Palacios, Sandro and Wanyama. Very peculiar.

Zero quotes or substantiated facts, and stating he has had reduced game time is lazy journalism. He has had more playing time under Mourinho than in the many months prior to his arrival.
