Tottenham Hotspur fans are being called on to show their passion for their club and help a worthy cause by bidding for a limited edition Spurs Opus.
Spurs have donated a copy of the Club Edition Opus to the Mayor of Haringey’s charity, which is raising funds to support carers in the borough.
Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Gina Adamou, is now inviting written bids for the Opus – a celebration of 125 years of Spurs’ history. Every penny raised from the auction will go towards supporting Haringey’s dedicated army of around 16,000 carers.
The Opus – the biggest book ever produced about the club’s heritage – is hand-stitched and leather-bound; measures in at 50cm by 50cm; weighs more than 30 kilos; is 800 pages long, and contains around 300,000 words and 1,500 photos.
It covers every era in the Lillywhites’ history since 1882, including exclusive interviews with key players and personalities and special features covering rivalry with Arsenal and the North London derby; White Hart Lane stadium; the evolution of training techniques; the 51 greatest Spurs players of all time and, of course, the legendary fans.
Just 1,000 copies of the Opus have ever been made, and the Mayor of Haringey’s auction will offer a rare chance for fans to get their hands on a copy of the book.
Cllr Adamou said:
The Opus is a stunning book and I am so grateful to Tottenham Hotspur for making such a generous donation to my charity.

These books are worth thousands of pounds and, kept in good condition, could be worth even more in years to come.

This season has been an exciting one for Spurs both on and off the pitch – with a fantastic run in the Premier League, FA Cup dreams still alive and the commitment to a new stadium in Tottenham.

This is a real chance for die-hard Spurs fans to celebrate that success by investing in a genuine piece of club history.

Every penny we raise from this auction will go straight to my charity fund and help to support carers, who so selflessly do such a great service to the borough.

I hope that people will dig deep and bid big to get their hands on this precious piece of memorabilia and support a great cause.
Written bids for the Opus should be clearly marked “Spurs Opus Bid” and should include your full name, address and telephone number and the value of your bid. Bids should be sent to: The Mayor’s Parlour, Haringey Civic Centre, High Road, London N22 8LE, no later than 10am on Monday 14 May 2012.

Might as well auction the other 999 while they are at it.

How many have been sold, anyone know?
