Tottenham Hotspur intend to trigger the option in Ben Davies’ contract, keeping the Wale defender at the club for next season.

Davies’ contract expires at the end of this season, his 11th at the club, but Tottenham plan to retain him for 2025-26 too.

Despite the repeated calls for us to sell him (from a noisy minority, if not a majority, of fans), every summer for 5+ years, he has proven once again that he has something to contribute. I'd be content with him as our second-choice LCB for another 1-2 years. We do need to add another LB to the squad though, with more pace than Davies and also to avoid our current situation of only right-footed players being available to cover for / rotate with Udogie (while VDV is injured / Davies is starting at LCB).

As well as being a pretty solid LCB (as proven in recent games), his attitude, professionalism and experience seem to be quite important off the pitch.

Good solid pro, pretty versatile. Every squad needs one, especially one with as many younglings as we've recently collected.

I’ve wanted rid of him in the past, but I feel like since Ange has been here he’s developed into a better player (strange as that may be to say given his age).

I get that air of calm, seasoned pro about him now. He’s earned an extension for sure.

With a crop of good young CBs coming through keeping him on as a mentor/backup is a good choice.

Terrific player and apparently a very nice bloke too, well happy to have him stay about the place. He makes a brilliant role model for the young players.

Have always thought he’s the perfect squad player. You wouldn’t want him in your best 11 if you’re serious about competing, but he’s ideal cover across more than one position.

The other nice thing about this is he'll be 33 when that extra year finishes and hopefully he'll fancy stepping straight into the coaching team. Though obviously pace has never been his thing so he might well be able to continue another year or two in the championship, going back to Swansea the obvious draw

But this makes it more likely he stays IMO
