Yesterday was a shambles. The red card killed any comeback, but the previous 60mins were atrocious.

* The double-pivot partnering were all about power & no technical ability. Dier was especially poor. Neither player, however, possess the techincal ability to be able to allow us to build through the 3rds.
* Back-line were also culpable in giving the ball away. They didn't push up anywhere near as much as they should have.
* Massive gaps appeared in front of the opposition backline when they gained possession because the back-line didn't condense the space.
* No intensity or endeavour.

All the above has to change & surely the gaffer has to see that Dier & Aurier are finished, therefore joining Rose, Wanyama & Eriksen on the way out.

Agree with all of the above, add to that this strange obsession with Eriksen being the only answer when things aren't going well, when clearly he stopped wanting to be the answer a long time ago.

I almost feel like our midfield have taken a step backwards

Thought the same. And because the passing was wasteful, the ball kept coming back. And because Chelsea had 3 centre backs, the long ball was easily defended. At times it went from defence to attack and back, bypassing midfield, and other times from defence to midfield and back. The only thing I can come up with is that GLC and NDombele aren't ready so we keep having to go with the same set ups and the same subs, even though we have already seen the limitations. Maybe with Son out we will see someone take the chance.

Contrast Sissoko-Dier with Chelsea's midfield and they were quicker with the ball, smarter on the ball and able to pass to each other. Spurs were clumsy and playing without any real idea of how to get through or stop them getting through. One of the threads talks about the need to get better technically. Ain't that the truth.

I stopped watching at HT. The penalty killed the game for me. It was descending into a brawl and Alli/Dier (in particular) were already losing their heads, then Gazzaniga's bizarre choice not to catch/punch. It was very disappointing.
