Tottenham are expected to open discussions with Romero over a new contract as they are desperate to keep him out of Real Madrid's clutches, according to GMS sources, and he is poised to be handed a significant pay rise to in the region of £200,000-per-week if he is prepared to commit his long-term future to the north Londoners.

Kinda pointless, talks won't go anywhere at the moment
Honestly I don’t really care, if he is set on Madrid I’d be getting the best deal we can for him. They want him in the summer then they pay for him in the summer, he’s on contract to 2027, if they don’t wanna pay let him got on a free.

I don't think he agrees a new deal tbh - not without a clear release clause or something at least.

He can doubtless earn more money elsewhere, it’s up to him, Ange doesn’t want any player who’s commitment is less than total and neither do I.

surely he won't stay, he will join Real Madrid next season and win tons of trophies
I’m sure that’s what he’d like, but will they think he’s good enough? Steven Carr wanted to go to Barcelona, but only Newcastle wanted him.

The talks:

DL: "How much have Madrid offered you?"
Romero: "500k/week"
Levy: "I can recommend a great estate agent in Spain"

I've seen this one before. 'Let's let him go because X is better anyway' . A year later Romero is winning the CL and crowned the world's best defender and we're realising that no, his replacement wasnt anywhere near as good. I know he's not had a great start to the season but we should be breaking the bank to keep him. And that means stretching our wage budget to £29 a day WITH luncheon vouchers.
