Seen that our old friend Paul Mitchell is also leaving RB Leipzig to be Sporting Director at Monaco. We never quite found out what happened with him here as he still seems to be highly regarded but i never really knew whether he was any good or not.
He wanted to leave because he felt that Levy didn’t follow through on any of his preferred recommendations basically.

My recollection was he was a stats man who put a system in place to rate players. But we never really knew how hands on he was with promoting found targets.

There was a thought that once he put the system in place he was no longer really required. How true that is I have no idea.

Seems like Rangnick is going to AC Milan to be their new manager. After his success at Leipzig it’s a shame we haven’t looked at him to overhaul things here.

Bringing him in upstairs and Nagelsmann in as manager was my "dream" choice for us after Poch left. Was never going to happen due to timing but i would've loved to see what they could do. They're both a perfect fit for our needs IMO.

I've said before but the thing with these 'transfer gurus' like Paul Mitchell is that very often they go into clubs determined to show they're shit hot and can unearth hidden gems at will and so expect every single recommendation to be followed up on and clubs to be signing a dozen players every summer.

That's alright if you're a club in flux/at a low ebb and rapid wholesale change is necessary, but with improvement comes less need for transfers, and so there is often a time limit on their tenure and off for a new transfer splurge elsewhere. As we see with him now.

With us at that time there wasn't as much of a need for someone like him. A few years either side maybe, but with Poch's coaching + a couple of smart additions we'd become a strong team needing minimal change at that point. And I go back to the point about expectations, and sometimes they seem to not live in reality - the rumoured tipping point was when we didn't sign Batshuayi (disregarding Chelsea came in and doubled the fee and wages on offer...)

In the end, it doesn’t matter how good a talent spotter you are if you can’t forge a strong working relationship both upwards with the chairman and downwards, with the coach. Seen plenty of ace talent spotters like Monchi or Mislintat go to other clubs and those working relationships don't function and the whole thing falls down.

I’d question if any talent finder could work effectively with Levy these days. Too many hoops to walk through.

Seems like Mitchell falls out with every club. What other reason can there be for him having such short employment periods at each club?

Not really. He left Leipzig because he was part of Rangnick’s management team and he’s left to go to Milan.

Napoli apparently bidding 100mil for Osimhen & Gabriel from Lille.

Campos is a magician. Why again are we not after him? On a tight budget he makes a ton of sense.

It's amazing to me that we aren't. He's been quoted by journalists that he prefers to scout players in the £3-5m bracket over big money signings. Again and again he's turned talents brought in on those kinds of fees into huge cash cows for the clubs he's worked for. If we're shopping for bargains at the moment he'd be absolutely perfect for the role.

The fact that we seem to hold no interest despite the perfect fit and the fact that our manager wants to work with him really makes me worry for the club's transfer strategy.

Levy would love him, get players in let them shine for a season or two then off-load for mega bucks.
I'm surprised he isn't all over this just when he is after, huge generator of revenue and can be done every year or every other year.
For him the benefits are huge s very similar model to Ajax, except they remain successful whilst being talent conveyor.

The policy is to buy low, sell high and has been for years.

Yet we don’t have a sporting director to oversee the strategy.

A proper walking contradiction of a business model.

You would think he would but ITK suggests he doesn't or at least thinks he isnt 1st choice for a job we don't seem to be in a hurry to fill.

Yes but spurs are a contradiction, we try to claim we are a big club yet try to do cheap deals and win fuck all.

The club can't afford to have levy in control of buying players, but then we can't leave it to Jose because he would probably try to buy Messi.

Our recent scouting strategy has been the transfermarkt search filter to find players with one year left on their contract

^^^This.
It makes so much sense considering our business model.
Campos & his company, or someone of his ilk, would be the single most important acquisition we could make.
Give him a Levy approved budget, let him consult with manager & then release him to do his magic.
Even with just a £15M kitty, he could probably bring in 3-4 young diamonds.
Do that for a few windows...

But again, unfortunately, it makes too much sense.
