Kante was the finished article. We are going to pay over 100m for 2 players that if could have been signed a year earlier could have been got for 30m. You can find gems who are ready. Look at maddison at leicester. Or closer to home Alli. He came in and showed he was ready within months. Dier is another one who came in under the radar and straight away was in the team. We need to get back to doing this as well as 1 or 2 big name players
That’s kinda what we did this summer. Only we took off for 18 altogether.

They call him innovative and clever yet focus almost *exclusively* on player recruitment and trading (which clearly he is good at - no arguments with that)

Isn't that what a DoF does though?

Who are you referring too. If you spot lo celso or ndombele sooner you save a lot of money. Both were taken cheaply and sold to us for big sums. I want to get back to the days of signing the modrics bales Berbatovs of the world before they become out of reach

It is only ‘if’ DL is prepared to let go, otherwise there is great difficulty with DoF

this was a legit mistake from Poch - who I love and can't believe was sacked. He should have pushed DL for a powerful DofF with legit skill in that area. Would have reduced his own power but also boxed the bald one in a bit.

It sounds like Levy is implementing his Plan B. For all the criticism he has gotten, some/much of it earned, it appears he does understand the financial value in turning THFC into a perennial powerhouse. While hiring Mourinho shows ambition, bringing in Campos shows even more commitment than most of us realized.

I agree, Morinho gives us the manager with a pedigree of winning trophies and winning mentality, the DOF would provide a closer eye on the football business, contracts, recruitment etc. This would leave DL to focus on the commercial side of things, naming rights, sponsorship etc. Its almost as if he had Poch to navigate the tough times with minimal investment, stadium build and playing away from home and believes we are now top table and require the set up to maintain it. I hope it works.

The most important thing for me is a calm voice as a cushion between Levy and Jose. We all know that after this sweetness and light period tensions will grow. The history of these two show that consistently.

I don’t know much about Campos as a person, but he appears to have a slightly professorial vibe about him. He knows Jose intimately, and he knows the football business well, so he can get into the mind of Levy hopefully too.

It really is absolutely key for me for this Jose experiment to work. The Hitchen, Capplehorn, Levy axis has proven that it doesn’t function effectively.

You‘d hope he is as he doesn’t inspire me massively having that much control over recruitment.

Needs to be a proper football person not a businessman handling transfers, Levy can still have final say as to whether signing off as the chairman tends to have.

I don’t disagree, however, the top 6 sides are unlikely to take those risks and let players go to other clubs to establish themselves prior to buying them.

Chuck a load of money and I’m sure they’ll let him come
A bit disappointing he won’t push for the move. Speaks to a decent character, but there’s no point keeping management at your club if their heart’s not in it, as we found with Poch.

Sessegnon and Clarke.

Foyth & Sanchez. We also tried to get De Jong from Ajax the year before his Barca move. I think we have never moved away from that. You need a mix of ready to make an impact superstars and young up and coming players. If you only feed one end it will be too short or too long term.

Just bring him in for the summer. Surely we can make it work for January. Although I don’t doubt anything when it comes to transfer failure with Levy.
But surely we want him doing the legwork for us now ready to sign players in the summer.

If he is leaving is there any benefit to Lille having a Sporting Director who is definitely leaving? Surely he wouln't advocating them signing players that he might want for us.

He's had problems in the past with this when Baldini was here too imo. I really don't see what's so bloody difficult about it. Just set a budget that you're comfortable with, be conservative if you have to and just let them get on with it.

If you're looking to extract value from buying and selling, then just leave it to the experts instead of becoming de facto chief scout with no technical football knowledge.

I think he'll come in. It's quite a complex situation, according to something a previous post indicated. He's not employed directly by Lille but his scouting database/network is or something to that effect.
