Not really paid much attention to this, however, a quick search shows that Campos and Mourinho are very well know to eachother. JM suggested Campos be appointed when he was at Utd. Interesting, this could be a return to the original plan set out for Arnesen and Santini/Jol.

Must admit, having a Sporting Director, and head coach who work in tandem, would make me feel we actually have a methodical approach to both transfers and managing player development.

I love a DoF, Levy can't do everything. Our scouting has been pretty dog shit for a few years it seems to me, which I know is simplistic but I'm a very primal and base man.

I love the sound of getting a DoF in and this one sounds top drawer too. The fact he's close to Mourinho gives hope it could actually work.

Levy may well have ended up with his dream scenario, question is can he afford it?

Also hope the guy is made of stern stuff being the middle man between Jose and Levy!

It sounds like Levy is implementing his Plan B. For all the criticism he has gotten, some/much of it earned, it appears he does understand the financial value in turning THFC into a perennial powerhouse. While hiring Mourinho shows ambition, bringing in Campos shows even more commitment than most of us realized.

Wouldn’t getting Campos show Levy wants to get someone who can sign players very cheaply who turn into much more valuable ones?

The setup should be pretty standard.

Levy lays out what we can afford and our payment structures. A sporting director does the legwork for identifying available talents. The head coach takes over the running of the football side of things.

Naturally all 3 need to be in agreement. In the past we have had managers angry at us not paying for their top targets. We have had head coaches unhappy at players being bought that they didn't want, etc.

I said earlier that getting our transfer setup right is vital. We don't need to outspend clubs, but we do need to be very proactive in the market.

Would he really be the middle man. Sounds like he’s already an extension of Jose’s team, which bodes well to have two key individuals singing from the same hymn sheet. Nice to have a structured approach eh...
Seems like Campos has a track record of unearthing talent for relative budget prices. Maybe that was part of the agreement for Mourinho to come, that Campos is also appointed, so he knows that if he doesn’t have big money to spend, the at least he knows what he has is being spent wisely.

Heard some French journo earlier saying we'd have to compensate Lille €2.5M

Levy will probably bulk at that :banghead:

Would've agreed.ages back but levy is being bolder now paying off poch and getting mourinho on 15m. Seems he's being ambitious now.

Haven’t then just paid €3m for Mourinho’s other backroom staff. €2.5 for a talented Sporting Director who has apparently unearthed so much talent, seems a steal.
