What is a smart buy?
I would imagine the likes of Lo Celso, Berwijn, Son, Moura etc...

Players that can come in for sensible transfer fees and wages but actually make sizeable impacts on our squad / first team.

Signing young raw players doesn't work with us as we don't have the ability to give them a couple of seasons to see how they pan out. For every Osimhen there is another player who didn't work out but needed a similar amount of playing time to assess, we don't have the luxury of providing that here.

I thought the whole idea of a DOF is to be the talent spotter and bring in the likes of Osimhen. Ocampos for i.e. brought in Bakayoko, Lemar, Silva and Fabinho.

In my opinion for next DOF, it should be Ralf Rangnick. Touted to be the next AC Milan manager until Pioli turned the ship around and started winning games - awarded with a new contract and the deal went dead.

Daniel Levy once told us what his idea of a Director of Football was. It was nothing to do with talent-spotting.We may disagree with him, but he owns the place so his opinion counts for something, right or wrong.

He said, and I'm summarising, that the board is comprised of business people, people who understand finance, business management, logistics, sales and marketing, the law, contracts etc etc...all the things any sizeable company needs. What the board doesn't know about or have experience of is the game of football. Equally, he said, the manager/head coach and the coaching staff know all about football, but very little about running a business.

All of this is fine: you need experts in each discipline. But the problem is, the board and the coaching staff need to understand each other, otherwise you get big problems.

So the answer, for him, was to find a person with experience in both football and business to bridge the gap and be a sort of intermediary between the two two so that both the coaching and playing staff on the one hand, and the business people on the other, can understand each other and work together to achieve common goals.

This was DL's view in the early days of ENIC's ownership of THFC, and the thinking behind the DofF appointments he made.

It appears that he might have changed his thinking a bit with experience. Whether that works in our favour is open to debate.

Given Steve Hitchens promotion doubt we will get a DOF now. Isn't that basically his job with a more glamorous title

Yeah, can't see us taking this route now. The roles seem settled at the moment, and it looks like we do well enough in the transfer market. Doesn't mean we can't use Campos (unless he become DoF at another CL/PL club) and his company as advisors without having him involved on the day to day basis.

We should do a Chelsea, and get him only so that United cannot
They still have a huge pull on players, no matter how a shambles their club is. Getting in someone like Campos would make them a huge title candidate in a few seasons.

Unless he comes in as chief scout in the old Hitchen role, we’ve restructured as previously mentioned and there isn’t the space for him

If Levy gets Campos to join the club, on-top of all the signings we've made, it's safe to say that Levy has been replaced with a doppelgänger.

Gona be a big throw-down next time Levy visits the Merchant's League!

We've already restructured the football side of things with Hitchen being promoted and Birch coming in from Swans.

Yep since we got Birch in who seems to have a very good knowledge and Hitchen also in place I think another person on could then be a case of too many cooks spoil the broth.

Althtough wouldn’t be disappointed if we got Campos by any means but with the two fellas above it doesn’t seem anywhere near as vital as perhaps it would have been end of Poch beginning of Jose era.

Campos Seems to have left Lille for real this time following their sale, I’m sure our name will pop up a few times

We'd be silly not to consider bringing him in. I know we have Hitchen but Campos has a long storied career of unearthing great to world class players. I just looked at the Tottenham website to get an idea of what Steve Hitchen's current role is:

Steve Hitchen has been promoted to Technical Performance Director. This new role will focus on building capabilities to support a world class football infrastructure across senior and youth teams. As Technical Performance Director, Steve will have responsibility for scouting, performance and recruitment analysis and youth recruitment.

I'm sure we can find a place for someone of Campos's caliber.
