Tottenham have left Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon out of their squad for the Europa League group stage.

Ange Postecoglou’s team had to submit a maximum 25-man squad to UEFA by Wednesday night, but were only able to list 23 players due to a lack of club-trained options.

23 players instead of the maximum 25 because of the lack of club trained players.

Would have thought Spence might have ben needed to cover left back and give Porro rest - he's not getting much first team time

Plus the youth players everyone wants to see in this comp anyway, that don't need to be registered.
Obviously - but those have no impact on Spence and wether he would make the 25 squad or not.

It has been discussed and mentioned over and over in different threads on this site at least since Poch´s days, that we have been balancing on a knife´s edge regardigng homegrown (HG) and club trained (CT) players. These chronic issues are the only reasons (imho) Kyle Walker-Peters and Marcus Edwards were rumoured to return to the club this summer - not that they were the best on field players for the positions. That Skipp left is what it is - I understand his position and his need for playing time 100%.

We have been a superbly run club for a long time now - financially. From the outside it´s hard to shake the feeling that the club has not been best in class (or even close to it) when it comes to squad administration and planning. Which obviously has to do with the quality of players coming through from the academy, but also about attaining young players at an age when they can still qualify for the CT-status at the time they reach the age limit (21).

It does seem though, that this is now being adjusted in the way we recruit players. Gray, Vuskovic and Phillips are some examples of players that will become CT if they stay at the club.

Would love to get your view on this, @Trix , as you have much more an inside look of the club and how it is run than most of us (at least more than me!);
has there been a distinct and conscious shift in how we organise our recruitment processes and talent acquisition? Not at least when it comes to secure that we don´t run into these CT related issues?
