I'm pretty sure we made similar statements regarding the future of Gareth Bale before he finally left for Real Madrid last summer. Southampton are always going to be a provincial club that will find it difficult to hang onto their best players when the big-clubs come calling. Tottenham Hotspur are historically a big-club with a huge fan-base; our ambitions, though not always realised, are there for all to see.

These two would be great signings, but i am not going to cry myself to sleep if they don't sign. We have a competitive squad that will hopefully become more streamlined over the coming weeks, thus enabling us to fully utilise all members of the playing-staff to maximum effect.

I really feel for the southampton fans. Great youth academy, highest league finish for ages and then it all falls to pieces cos "business."

No surprise if he means it. If these had been the first two out then probably not a problem. But with four gone already the Club has to draw a line somewhere.
My son-in-law is a season ticket holder at Soton. He understands the economic reality of the food chain but to see six top players sold by one Club would be a horrible kick in the teeth.
Two top players by the way. Better than the four already sold IMO.

Sure there was a post earlier suggesting Schneiderlin was ready to put in a transfer request, to push through a move.

I know, on the flip side they have always done this. If you look at their history they have always produced these players and sold when there stock is high.Bale, Theo W, Ox, to name a few. Also remember when they were going to mug us by selling K jones for 18m or so.
Their chairman is laughing all the way to the bank, they can't compete with the best when it comes to revenue however they can keep pumping and developing their youth system knowing the preys will come hunting and pay top dollar.
96m for 5 players, when you add JR and MS to the list; they will be getting over 120 million, add TV revenue. The Club is in a health position, i know the fans will dislike and be full of anger/rage but that’s the way of life. Mean financial stabilty; Ask their neighbours Pompey how they are coping.

The article doesn't say anything about "unless they put in transfer requests".

Actually, when asked if he can categorically guarantee the Southampton fans that the players are staying he replied "That's correct".

Classic they draw the line at us after flogging off everyone else to our rivals. Why stop the yard sale now? May as well go 'full retard'

I think Krueger is in for a surprise. Coming from the Hockey world as he does, where players have very little power as individuals but a strong union, he is going to be in for a shock when he realises that the opposite is true in football. If they want to leave, they will.

I had a quick look at their financial results last year.
They made a 6.6 million loss, they still owe 27 million in outstanding transfer fees and are undertaking a 30 million pound training academy.
They had also took out a 6 million loan for some other financial shenanigans and made an 11.9 million loss the previous season.

Thats over 80 million to pay back. These transfers will make Southampton pretty much debt free, stopping them from doing a Pompey, and pay for their new training scheme which will be a lasting legacy.

Worst case scenario is that they get relegated but with the extra Sky money this season, hugely reduced wage bill, and parachute payments next they will be in a fantastic position to return to the premiership.

This may appear to smack of short termism but it will put the club in a much stronger position in the long term.

So when I said yesterday that the BBC isn't the most reliable media source, you all laughed at me...
Tbh, if I got a happy birthday on tv or online from any media outlet I'd have to check my birth certificate, ask my mum and count my pubes before I believed them.

*Pubes was in my phone dictionary and I didn't put it there.
Smirking.

Backs against the wall stuff from Kreuger. We know how that pans out though and if these are the players Poch wants Levy should know enough by now from his own experience to make it happen.
