@Ionman34 how can you disagree?! It's clear as day

It's going to the right back

Because that doesn't show it from the angle Sky did, which was situated behind Son in a direct line with Eriksen. It clearly shows the ball was heading directly at Son in the position he was at the time. It then shows the deflection changing the angle of flight by a few degrees. Had the deflection not occurred, Son would have had to check his run to receive it, slowing the momentum. As it was, the deflection meant that Son had to run on to the ball, meaning that he could outpace the defender.

It wasn't a perfect ball, but saying it was a fluke suggests that Eriksen wasn't aiming at Son. The deflection turned a good pass into a better opportunity, but calling it a fluke is incorrect.

I never said it was a fluke. I said it was heavily deflected, which it was.

Not a penalty because the original offence
when he grabs Dele's arm is outside the area.
Free kick should have been given from there
so no sending off either.

But I didn't see it so the ref was probably right.
Aren't they always?
Agree that the offence looked to be outside the area so it shouldn't have been a penalty. However, I think a red card was definitely warranted. Had we just been given a free kick when Redmond clearly intentionally impeded Alli when through on goal it would have been a huge injustice. Whether it was a penalty or not should have no impact on whether it was a red card or not.

He has been better over the last couple of weeks but this season he has been below his output from last season.

His first touch and passing is far from elite. He also loves a trick/nutmeg a little too much at times.

Don't get me wrong, still happy that he is playing for Spurs.
I wouldnt call that 'failings' though, he's 20 and still developing his game.

I really dont understand people who think the team are beyond criticism after we have won. How do you improve if you dont look at the negatives on top of the positives? And if you look at my post, it was hardly negative. Stop trying to be chivalrous, dude.

Far from it. I'm a vocal critic, and am well aware of our flaws.

But if you reach the point where you can't gain any brief respite despite a decent win it might be time to take a break.

I thought it was (obviously) a very good win. During the game, the comments in this thread in no way accurately reflect what's actually happening on the pitch so lurking in here for an idea as to how we're playing is a complete waste of time. The over exaggeration is astonishing. The standard every performance is judged by is 'perfect' anything less and we seem to be 'shit'. Going a goal down results in a sudden switching on of a curious kind of cyber depression and we're 'boring' or 'lacking creativity' yet one of the commentators said we've the second most chances created (or shots) in the league.

I'm pretty sure the number of people who actually know what they are talking about in here is very very low and i'm double sure that every person reading this will think they are one of Churchill's "few" :D

We were shit for the first 15min so people posted about it. I didnt but can understand why.
Perhaps close the thread until after the game to prevent real time comments?
Then we can all look clever after the event.
Fans are passionate and so over react both for good and bad so most of the time its ALL bo##$$#s :)
And whats wrong with that? Doesnt matter a jot.

The in match comments are what they are:
Instant responses to good and especially bad.
A goal down to free kick after a needless foul
in the second minute in an important 'must win' game
is bound to provoke extreme responses
which 'events', dear boy, may prove to be completely ridiculous
and often do.

Enjoy it for what it is.
Personally I don't indulge in the habit.

Its quite hilarious to hear the debate on here about Son's goal, anyone that thinks that deflection didn't make it a whole lot easier is in denial, not a great ball by Eriksen in the first place, but he made the pass and it deflected into his path. On to Eriksen, who i have given a lot of stick this season, i think he is really starting to get his confidence back and is looking much more like the player we know is in there. Long may it continue.

This is a Southampton team that have only lost once (maybe twice?) at home this year and hadn't conceded for 500 plus minutes and we go and put 4 past them which deserves some major credit, but i agree with some it was so fucking casual at times. The first 15 minutes was some of the worst i have every seen from us. I still feel that there is something massively lacking in terms of DRIVE and PERSONALITY in the team. Someone should have laid into Hugo in the second half when he had a crazy 5 minutes, it was only 2-1 and that was giving them hope, some of the pissing around at the back is laughable and i honestly would be pointing and laughing at the screen if it was another team. Fortunately for us Southampton play so defensively and if they were more attack minded at 1-0 they could have destroyed us today, so yes the scoreline is a little flattering.

I feel we are on the cusp of something, we have some really good players, i just feel the flow of the team isn't right, maybe Winks and Dembele need a go in the CM positions, do we need a destroyer like Wanyama, or does Dier need to go in there. I feel we are struggling with rhythm currently, it's hard to explain.

I also feel Dele will be the most frustrating player i will watch for years, like a kid over the park, messing around when he gets the ball, being so casual, then boom two goals from nothing when i'm screaming at him to get involved and do something for the team. It always happens, Palace last year was such a prime example of this.

Kane wasn't at the races today, great header, but looked heavy, poor movement and drained. Would have introduced Vincent at 70 or 75 if i'm honest. But fuck it. Beautiful win, but still something that not quite right.

I think Lamela's pressing will really help energise the team further up the pitch. For me big shout outs to Rose, Sissoko and Eriksen, one of them should of been MOTM.

What do u mean 'how do you improve if you don't ...' ?...no ones printing this thread to send to the team for them to take notes from fella, it's mainly the rantings of sad, lonely people who don't have anyone to watch the match with.

We have a bad habit of conceding early goals but we also know how to turn things around and score late goals quite regularly. I'd wait until we're actually 2-0 down before slagging off the team ;)

Just watched the game and here is my take.

1st Half
  • Good on SH for pressing and bringing it to us. Great set play delivery and general desire in the first half of the first half. Redmond came close and so forth.
  • Our CM2 is baffling to watch IMO. Watch at 25 mins in or so as Dier steps up and Vic takes his spot in the back 4. Dier steps up and tries a 25 yard pass on the ground to Kane. Him and Winks all day over Wanyama and Dembele. With risk comes reward. In the first half Vic and Dembele looked real bad IMO. Outside a decent ball out to Sissoko they were far off pace all half.
  • Attack were rather lethargic but credit to a competitive side. The goal was another display of great goal scoring instinct and desire by Dele. He really pops up at the right time. That cross though? Deflection from heaven cause without that, the ball would have been at the top of the box, missed everyone and we could just end up going into half down 1-0 vs 1-1. So thanks Nathan Redmonds shoulder for giving us some momentum
2nd Half

  • Moose was surprisingly not sent off IMO and again looked off pace with Wanyama. With 10 men our mids should have taken control. I know I say this constantly but it isn't working.
  • Attack warmed up to the idea of playing with 10 men and some nice goals were created.
All in all we dominated the majority of the game, but I think we need to tinker with the midfield to shine.

Those of you who are critiquing the first 15 mins are really missing the point, surely.
