TEAM FORM: ___ Soton _LLWWD _____ Spurs LWLWD ___ (All Competitions)

Southampton won this exact fixture 2-1 last season, ending a run of six consecutive home league games without a win against us (D2 L4). We have faced each other on New Year's day once before in the Premier League (PL), they winning 1-0 in 2003 thanks to a James Beattie strike. The Saints have won 7 points from their last four home PL games (W2 D1 L1), more than they had in their previous 10 games at St Mary's (W1 D3 L6). Since the start of the 2018-2019 campaign, Danny Ings has had a hand in more PL goals than any other Saints player (19 goals, 4 assists). He has scored 12 goals this season, his best ever tally in a top flight season.

We have won 11 of our 15 PL games against Soton since they returned to the top flight in 2012 - against no other side have we won more leagues game in this time. We haven't lost our first league game of a calendar year since 2009 (0-1 vs Wigan), winning 8 and drawing 2 since then. We have also won our last 6 PL matches played on New Year's day.

No side has kept fewer clean sheets than us this season (only 2), with only bottom side Norwich keeping as few. Since Jose took charge, no PL side has conceded more goals in all competition than us (17).

Kane
has scored in 6 consecutive PL appearances against the Saints - only Robin Van Persie vs Stoke - (8), Floyd Hasselbaink vs West Ham (7) and Romelu Lukaku vs West Ham (7) have had longer scoring streaks against an opponent in the competition. He has scored 5 goals in his last 3 PL appearances on New Year's day - in PL history, no player has scored more goals on that day than Kane (Andy Cole and Steven Gerrard also 5).

Jose has never lost an away league match against the Saints in 6 previous meetings (W3 D3) - he has faced saints more often than any other side without losing away from home in his managerial PL career.

Hope we can keep up the trend of not losing on New Years day. A rare clean sheet would also be appreciated

We have lost all 3 games that Mike Dean has been referee since we beat his beloved Tranmere 7-0
Mike Dean must be rhyming slang for something...
Mike Dean...fuck over Spurs N17 or Mike Dean...anti Spurs scheme
Anyway let’s hope 2020 brings a new version of Mike Dean and not the incompetent fuckwit we have seen before

Thank God for VAR

Didn’t help us with the Kane penalty v Newcastle.

I’m not looking forward to today solely on the basis Dean is ref. He won’t give us a level playing field. It’s almost pointless playing the game with him officiating.

Sit on my hands in the home end for this one today. Hopefully we'll destroy them like Leicester did and they'll all bugger off at HT :D

Absolutely imperative we get three points today. Anything less is a disaster. Expect Chelsea to win at Brighton.

No good vibes for this one, Dean wont give us anything, Im predicting we start off slow like headless chickens and go one down to Redmond, 2 down shortly after half time with Ings then we will realise we are in a game and Haych will get one back but they will hold out for a 2 - 1 win.

ps, im always wrong.

I think we’ll take away a fine win or we’ll take away a hiding.

The line up might give us a little more indication about outgoings.

Lol, we really need 2-3 new players in this month. Jol was backed in his first January window after he took over, so was Harry. I think we’ll do some business, I just hope it’s good and not :poop:

Yeah, think we'll lose this one. Usual achingly sluggish start, cock up early goal, lose 2-1. Sorry to be such a misery.
