TEAM FORM: --- Southampton DWWLL ------ Spurs - WWLLW --- (All Competitions)

We face a tricky trip to Southampton on Sunday as we bid for our first Premier League points of the season. We fell to a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Everton on the opening day but have since progressed to the Europa League third qualifying round with victory over Lokomitv Plovdiv. We will come up against a Saints side who have started their campaign poorly with losses to Crystal Palace in the Premier League and Brentford in the Carabao Cup. We have also been boosted by the seemingly imminent transfers of Real Madrid pair Gareth Bale an Sergio Reguilon, which are both expected to be completed today (Friday).

Japhet Tanganga will certainly miss out, while Serge Aurier may be sidelined with a knock. After returning mid-week, Giovani Lo Celso is likely to retain his place in midfield, while the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Dele Alli could be reinstated to the team after being left out of their European trip. New signings Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty both played the 90 minutes against Plovdiv but will most likely be involved once more on Sunday. The match could come too soon for Bale and Reguilon, regardless of whether they sign in time. La Liga has not yet got underway, with both players undergoing pre-season training at Madrid, with Bale training on his own in the gym.

As for Southampton, new signing Kyle Walker-Peters will likely enjoy a reunion with us in just his second Premier League game as a permanent Saints player. With neither side scoring in their opening day fixtures, there might not be a goal-fest in Southampton, despite the array of attacking talent on display. Harry Kane and Danny Ings will look to compete for the Premier League golden boot and they'll both be desperate to get off the mark on Sunday.

We have been the more successful of the two of in this fixture historically, winning 83 of our 197 meetings, as opposed to Southampton's 64, alongside 50 draws. We shared the spoils last season, with us winning 2-1 at home but losing 1-0 at St Mary's. We also knocked Southampton out of the FA Cup with a 3-2 fourth-round replay win.

Obvs the 3 points are important, but I'm really more concerned with the performance right now. I want to see that we can keep our shape, stay organised and communicative at the back, not leave huge gaps in midfield, and effectively link to Kane.

Performance will stay !%&%"". There is just no way you go from the last two games we have had to playing well.

I'm kind of in the opposite camp. Liverpool didn't play well early on last season, but they got the points and when they hit form later there was no stopping them. I have no doubt that we will be a good team this year, but there is obviously only so many points we might be able to catch up later. We just got to hang in there points-wise and then this might get exciting come spring.

I'll take 3 points and a small step in the right direction. And it seems like Southampton might be struggling a bit themselves so it isn't exactly impossible that so would happen.

I guess I would at least like to see steps in the right direction then... less feckless, headless chickens than against Everton.

This is always a hard fixture. If we play like we have been doing we will likely lose. They haven't made a very good start, but Dr Tottenham could easily be paying his second visit of the season if we're not careful.
Hoping Gio and Tanguy will make a difference.

The key for me in this game is the attacking transition improving. Until that improves we are going to struggle. If we can't keep the ball that will kill confidence quickly and I don't see anyone being able to change that.

I'm hoping Reguilon and Bale encourages Mourinho to play like we played in those first 5 matches. We have the players to do that and he can focus on coaching us to defend.

Will bite your hand off for any kind of win here. We can worry about the performances later but we need to build some momentum and ride the wave of optimism that we are currently on following Bales arrival.

I know Jose keeps saying it but we really need to play with a little bit of piss and vinegar. I could care less about tactics and would like to see us just boss a side for confidence.

I'm hoping the win yesterday gives the players some happiness, add to that bringing in two top players and the morale should be high around the team. The talent is there to win games, it's all about confidence at this point.

If we have Lo Celso and Ndombele, in more of a 4-3-3 I'll feel we may get something. If we set up in the usual way I really can't see us getting anything.

I want to see some attitude and intent instead of the lethergic rubbish we've seen far too much of. I'd like Ndombele to start and just see how long he can last although it may be too soon for that in reality. I'd like Hojbjerg to play as a conventional DM and not chase the ball all over the place. I also want GLC to grab the game by the nadgers and set the tone for his season. I'd like to seee our front line show some awareness of each other and stop butchering the few chances we create.

Hopefully. I mean even when we're able to put them out, it's all good and well having Kane, Bale and Son, but we need to start functioning as more of a productive team to see the benefits. In truth, even Kane, Son and Bergwijn in a front three should be deadly but even then we still wouldn't see the required level of flowing football. Really hope we get our midfield sorted and can actually start to create chances.
