Saw this thread had unread and thought Southend had sacked him. He hasn't won yet there has he?

They've got seven points from his 12 games now. They're 15 points from safety and have the worst defence in the division having conceded 65 in 24 games. To be fair to Campbell they were bad before he took over and he has improved their results slightly, but I'm sure he was brought in to save them from the drop and it's not going to happen.

Still winless in the league. Good times.

They're lower odds than Bolton to finish bottom despite Bolton's points deduction, truly awful side.

Seems it's not going quite so well for Sol in terms of his man management skils ??

To be fair there's probably not much that multi millionaire Sol Campbell could do in this situation It's not like he's collecting his wages and letting his players suffer is it? Oh it is!?! ?

Worrying that Southend are in this position though.

Southend have been in the financial mire for quite some time, unfortunately. That's now at least 4 clubs - Bolton, Maccesfield, Bury & Southend - who've struggled to pay their players this season.

I feel for the fans of those clubs.

I'm Southend born and loaf of. I trained at Roots Hall Tuesday and Thursday evenings during my school days and my father took me to see the Shrimpers for the first time in the late 60s. They are my hometown and second team. Campbell is absolutely deluded. I should add I made my peace over what he did to us a good while ago so I was surprised to give him a fair crack at Southend. Each bloody week it seems we lose yet he says in the local press that the signs of improvement are there. He is undoubtedly the worse manager of Southend I have witnessed in half a century. Admittedly the club under Ron Martin's ownership is a shambles but appointing Campbell was a joke. I would have gone for a young hungry manager from non league. Finally, it is not just the playing staff who are owed money from wages, the stewards did not get paid for December and are threatening to strike for tomorrow's home game which will have to be postponed if their strikes goes ahead.

I knew things weren't great there, but I didn't think they were at the stage where they couldn't pay wages. As soon as you hear that you wonder how long they can survive.

I wasn't sure how to rate this. I can't give it a like when you're telling us how bad things are there so I had to settle on a friendly.

Whats going on with the new stadium now? The last i heard it had been delayed yet again.

Portsmouth, Notts County, Macclesfield, Southend. Chicken or egg?
I'm actually going to stick up for Sol on the former two. ( )

He joined Pompey before everyone knew they were in financial shit, and only later did the shitty thing of suing a broken club for unpaid wages after leaving.

He was sold a lie at Notts County, along with Kasper Schmeichel and Sven-Göran Eriksson. The financing group that claimed to have oil-rich backers had absolutely nothing whatsoever. The club is still paying the price today, even though it was another crap owner who actually took them out of the league.

The two clubs he's managed, though, he's chosen of his own volition knowing the clubs were in deep shit. Just a very strange thing to do, fair enough try it with one club to put your name out there, but then jump straight to another crisis club?

Ron Martin was just on talksport on the Jim White show. He reckons that he knows nothing about a strike, everyone is getting paid and that Southend will be doing business in the window. Had to laugh though -

Ron Martin: "I've been around 22 years and I hope to be around for a long while yet".

5 minutes later....

Jim White: "so are you committed to the club in the long term?"

Does the guy actually listen?

Jim White is like most journo hacks. They have their list of questions, probably compiled by a junior staffer, don't listen to the conversation and just robotically ask the questions in the order they appear on their list.

I will miss him saying "Roland Duchatelet" now that the guy has sold Charlton, though. Pretty much the only good thing he's ever done.

That's what occurred to me - it's not a conversational interview, it's like a Q&A so one has to question how much regard he's paying to the answers.

Probably none. He doesn't give a shit about Southend, he or more likely a junior staffer will have done the absolute basic level of research required to compile a list of questions, and then he'll go on air with it. It's not a high profile gig, he isn't interviewing anyone famous enough to be "worth his time", so he won't do more than the bare minimum.

I know from experience in the business how lazy a lot of journos, and presenters in particular, actually are.

No doubt when he eventually quits or gets sacked he’ll be perusing any unpaid money vigorously and backing any action against them like he did with Macclesfield. He needs the money with the millions he has you see...

They should pay him in jellied eels.

Hopefully they’ll put him on a winkle barge and then scuttle it off the Essex coast.
