Not a good call IMO. Snooker is such a strategic game and when people get put into a real pickle it's interesting to see how they get themselves out of it etc. Forcing them to rush shots takes a lot of strategy away IMO.

I understand to some extent wanting to speed the game up, but I would say a better way to do it would be to have some sort of punishment if the referee rules that a player is repeatedly taking an excessive time to take a shot i.e. if they're taking the mick and agonizing over every last shot for 5 minutes then the ref should have a word and if they carry on then they get some sort of punishment like 5 points deducted or something. That way you're not blanket banning thinking about your shot so it doesn't interfere with the strategy in a difficult situation, but it avoids people taking unnecessarily long deliberating about easier shots.

Good points.....what do you think to the way they do it in pool ? They have so long for a shot but are entitled to a number of 'extensions' that they can ask for to give them more time when in a difficult position

I didn't realise that's what they did in pool. That's also a decent option to be fair. Far more sensible than a blanket shot clock for every shot no matter how difficult.
