Should we go for Diego?

He is available and not likely to be expensive. I understand he is not exactly what we urgently need at the moment.
Just a thought, buy him and convert VDV into a striker. A possible option if we cannot get a good finisher, as VDV is more than decent with his finishing.

He's a next level player and the more of those we have in our squad, the better off we'll be. I know some on here will report on his indifferent form at Wolfsburg and his "disciplinary" record there but none of us know the background to all that so it's unfair to judge him to harshly.

The facts are he's an experienced European campaigner, a Brazilian international and a damn fine player who has the ability to change games and often score brilliant goals (I expect there are lots of examples on Youtube). OK, we have Modric, VDV and Huddlestone as our creative forces but all three spent time out injured last season and no one can dispute that there were several games when we desperately lacked a creative force.

If we are to maintain our bid for the CL we need all the quality players we can get.

He was bad at Juve because they constantly played him out of position. I didnt watch much Bundesliga this year, but if you go back to his Bremen days, he was one of the top players in the league then. If you put him in the middle of the park, and let the game flow through him, then he is a better version of Modric who can also score 10 goals per season. If we can get him, give him a year to adapt, then we have a ready-made replacement for Luka.

Yes I watched him quite regularly then. I kind of like the idea of us signing him.

He'd get eaten alive, especially in England. Stick him in a central 3 with little defensive responsibility then fine, but a central 2 with everything Luka does? No chance.

I've always loved this guy as a footballer, even all them years ago when he was leaving Santos and Hoddle (i think) nearly signed him for us..

He did very well in the German league, which is quite a tough league, so I think he could handle The Prem.

It'd be a very interesting set of midfielders if we added this quality to our squad. We could replicate the flowing Barca system, Sandro holding, Modders, Diego, Vdv all swapping keeping people guessing - man that'd be awesome. With Niko, THudd, Lennon etc all able to do the same.

No, needs a free role and for the team to built around him, we are already struggling to do this with VDV.

he is quality, he is spurs.

Whether or not he has a bad attitude, thats maybe something harry can iron out of him..

..I'd prefer Marin!

isn't Marin even more of lightweight? I would say Diego has a bit more aggression about him.

he looked a great player last i saw him which was a couple of years ago now, i wouldnt mind taking a punt. VDV is always going to get injuried/suspended

Sandro-Modric-Diego-VDV in a diamond midfield...? Bale and Walker bombing on from fullback...? Rossi and Vucinic up top? I've heard of worse

There is a reason why Wolfsburg released him just year after they bought him and there is a reason why he hasn't been snapped by another big club already
He's not the player he was at Bremen anymore

I wonder why he is no longer the player that brought magic to Bremen three seasons ago? During those days the guy was the classiest player on the field and scored some cracking goals but since his move to La Juve he went off the boil, even more so at Wolfsburg.
If the price is right I reckon he'd be worth signing.

I was a massive fan of Diego before he went to Bremen and he lived up to his promise there. But since his move to Juve he has struggled to keep up with his past promise and although he would be a useful squad player for us he would resent being on the bench that much and would not settle with us. He'd be a great player for someone like Villa where he could slide straight into the first team, but for us he's not a good signing.
