I was actually quite optimistic going into this game. The defence had looked better in the two games played since lockdown ended. Dier appeared to be turning into a decent CB. Kane had scored a goal. Then came the game itself.

Still feeling deflated! We'll never know what would have happened if the first Kane "goal" had been allowed to stand. What did happen was the old familiar scenario of lots of possession with next to nothing to show for it. On top of that our defence opened up far too easily.

Playing Son, Lucas and Bergwijn looks attractive but just doesn't work. Lo Celso ought to be further up the field and Ndombele has to start games.

The defence needs a lot of work doing to it. Our most reliable two defenders, Alderweirald and Vertonghen both have their best years behind them. The same could be said for Lloris as well. (Worryingly, because of his age Dele Alli is in danger of falling into that category too!)
Aurier can't defend, Davies is ok but nothing more. I still hold out hopes for Sanchez but we need a really good CB alongside him.

I'm no big fan of Mourinho but he's inherited a side whose best recent years (2015-18 plus a CL run) are behind them and which has been patched up with some ill fitting transfers.
Sad to say it but Mourinho, a manager whose most successful years are in the past, is in this one respect an ideal fit!

Wilder outclassing Mourinho...do me a favour....we have too many players who are just taking the money...Aurier, Sissoko, Lamela, Sanchez and others shouldn’t be anywhere near our starting eleven, that’s most of the problem there...none of which Jose bought in. At least give Jose some time to get some of his players in and then we can judge. And McBurnie getting man of the match summed tonight up...a pub player if ever I saw one...
Is Gedson one of his players? The jury seems to be out on him and perhaps even Bergwijn.

On a side note, I'm sure we have historically always played incredibly poor when we wear that blue kit. Always lose. I swear I remember days in the early 90s with Kevin Scott and Jason Cundy in defence getting absolutely smashed wearing that blue kit. Then some terrible performances in the tight Kappa kit days.

Don’t give José more excuses....!

I must be honest before the game I was of a similar mindset, I thought the previous two games had shown the defence was better and looked as if it was all moving in the right direction.
But as always my spurs came back to me, the old classics of shit awful defending, poor passing and general lack of anything were all on show last night.
I did know what is in store for the future, but the stadium grand opening is just a distant memory, and the club is a shit show from top to bottom with nothing to look at with any optimism.

Wow some of you are seriously sad individuals. You epitomize the "Spursy" mentality around our club. We have the potential to smash Sheffield out of the park tonight and all I see is pure pessimism and negativity. Losers mentality, this feeling is exactly what JM was brought in to kill off.

We have been playing very well since the restart and are much more solid at the back. I can't see Sheffield scoring more than 1 goal today, and they have been very shaky so all we need to do is score 2. I'm feeling very optimistic about this game. COYS

How did this work out for you?

EDIT: Apologies Afri, I was being a jerk. We are all entitled to opinions.

Bit harsh if you ask me - what's the point of being a fan if you can't have some optimism?

Can't blame him, probably doesn't have anything else to do with his time. I'll be the small bit of joy in his life so he can finally have something to smile about. Even if it is just for 3.25 seconds.

I just fucking hate the way they govern the rules of the game these days. For the first time in my life I turned off at half time. Nothing to do with team performance either but im sick of the way the game is going.

Theyre basically trying to have the level of fidelity that a nasa astronaut needs to have when landing a shuttle. It goes against the spirit of the game.

Its not just about a poor decision here or there, managers get sacked based on a couple of results. Look at our season, had we beaten Leicester away earlier in the season before one of the molecules that Son is made off was perceived to be offside then we would have gone 3rd, we would have got that terrible away form off our back, had some momentum and had stifled them early.

Look at the Everton game, a decision so poor that despite having VAR they had to retract a ban. Both games in our first 12 games, both games would have been away wins and that is 5 points we lost.

Now all the people who still shit on Poch like to point to him being sacked with us in 14th. Those 5 points would have had us on 19 points instead of 14th. 5th instead of 14th and that doesn't even include the momentum swing that would have been in our favour. That's why I fucking can't stand their implementation. Because this is a knife edge sport and we have been royally fucked by it.

I'm a super-optimist, get behind the team and the manager type and I have loads of thoughts on the game but my over riding thought is that Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur are just a very bad fit. I hope this time next year I can bring up this post and laugh at my own stupidity but I'm getting the feeling it's all going to end horribly.

Lo Celso had a poor game but really we need all of our creative players on the pitch. Him, Lamela, N'Dombele. A CB who can pass the ball.

agree lo celso wasn't at his best, but was stil OUR best players, and had glimpses of quality.

We have become turgid, dull...a pointless waste of space with no character or identity

our attacking play is laughable. Slowly, meander our way forwards, discover a well drilled defence all in position and waiting for us. They’ve had plenty of time to get in position. Some sideways passing followed by the inevitable wayward pass or failed dribble.

Apologies, I was being a jerk. In mitigation, Im still steaming about last night.

No need to apologize it's all in good fun too me. I have been wrong many more times than I have been right especially when it comes to Spurs.

The next few games are testers for us to see who really wants to be here and who doesn't. Hopefully JM and Levy will get rid of those bringing the rest of the squad down.

Why do people rate Sanchez. He’s dreadful

On the odd occasion he has his head fully screwed on he does look good. He has some desirable attributes for a modern, PL CB in that he's fairly quick, athletic and strong, but that doesn't cover for huge lapses in concentration.
