Wow some of you are seriously sad individuals. You epitomize the "Spursy" mentality around our club. We have the potential to smash Sheffield out of the park tonight and all I see is pure pessimism and negativity. Losers mentality, this feeling is exactly what JM was brought in to kill off.

We have been playing very well since the restart and are much more solid at the back. I can't see Sheffield scoring more than 1 goal today, and they have been very shaky so all we need to do is score 2. I'm feeling very optimistic about this game. COYS
Whilst we've clearly looked more organised since the restart I wouldn't exactly predict that it'll be plain sailing from this point on. We are still fundamentally a work in progress and in the short term will still likely have matches where we're a bit all over the place and have to ride our luck. I think a balanced approach is welcome. Personally I can see us giving up a few chances, but on the other hand I think a lot of fans are criminally underrating us in an attacking sense. There's loads of quality available for us to cut through them if we turn up.

I don't see this game being one for the neutrals.

I guess the only thing that might work in our favour is if they start going at it with a "last chance for Europe" mentality and come out all guns blazing on the attack. They've not scored a league goal in the their three games since the re-start so that might well be the case. If that happens, then if Son, Bergwijn and Lucas can exploit the space when they come at us then we could win.

Really could do with an early goal in this one.

I'm going with a narrow victory, however I think they will score so 2 - 1 to the epic Lillywhites, Son and Serge to score. I don't see Ndombele starting again today, however I think he will get time late on which he desperately needs as his mental state must be low at the moment, come on Mou give him some hope.

Jose’s most favored players are Dele and Lucas, both of whom would be the likely suspects if anyone were to be dropped. So while I agree with you there, we wont see any changes.

Jose might favour players but he's not an idiot, he can see who and what works best on the pitch. I think Bergwijn is now first choice ahead of Lucas. Jose was also quick to sub off Dele (59mins) against West Ham. The thing with Dele is that even though he's not on form offensively he still works hard to track back, cover the pitch and block passes. We'd all like to see Ndombele for his qualities going forward, but he still needs to show he can be trusted to work as a team player when not in possession.

Massive game for us tonight with 3 points an absolute must. I think we will win convincingly.

Not sure being pessimistic about a team that's been massively hot and cold all season is a reason to call people "seriously sad individuals". We've got an almost equal spread of wins losses and draws which says a lot about how unpredictable we've been.

On the other side, you've got Sheffield who despite looking off the pace since the restart, were still having a cracking season until the lockdown so you can't just write them off completely.

Not saying we're guaranteed to drop points but I can certainly understand why people are less than confident.

Perspective. Comparing the team that Mourinho took over vs the team that we've seen playing the past two games is chalk and cheese.

We have some real defensive solidity, we have been more fluid in attack and if we had finished the chances we've created our scorelines would reflect much better on us than the current scorelines.

The reason why a lot of the regular forum members no long post as often is because of this constant need for negativity on this forum. It is very sad to see, given the real problems facing the world today. Football is one very small positive light for us to look forward to.

And I won't be here slagging the boys off if we do end up losing, I have much better things to do with my time and I really have bigger things to worry about but no doubt there will be anarchy in here if we lose as always.

I thought this kicked off at 8 but it’s actually at 6. Just to think I could of missed out on all the stress if I’d of continued with my mistake.

Going to be a tight ugly game this. I’m less confident on this than the Man U and West Ham games which I thought we might win. Can see a draw

Probably won't be in the match thread at all during or after the game if I'm honest, been avoiding it for 6 or so months already during the game due to the negativity you've warned me about.

I would go about ignoring all the naysayers but I would have 10 people to talk to including yourself. :ROFLMAO:

Just had a look at our lineup in the reverse fixture and it's actually very similar to what we're likely to play tonight (the main difference being the addition of Bergwijn with Lo Celso playing deeper instead of Ndombele). It was also Poch's last game I believe, and we were basically in our death throes. IIRC Sheffield Utd played through us pretty easily and generally looked the better, more organised, side.

It will be interesting to see how we compare tonight with almost the exact same players but a completely different approach and style. Will their shape still allow them to play through us, or will we be better off this time with our deeper setup?

We were lucky to get a point in the home game!

Chalk and cheese defensively, definitely not offensively....

Strangely optimistic about this one, and really looking forward to it.

We are a more organised defensive unit now, but our attacking players just haven't quite clicked yet. So many promising moves just fall apart because of the slightest margins.

But one of these days they will click and we do have some seriously talented attacking players. And I just feel Kane is going to have one of those spells to shut up all those pundits claiming he has lost his edge, can't blossom under Jose etc...

In any case, just really looking forward to the match.

I wouldn't be fooled by sheffield's results thus far, they had a red card which opened them up against newcastle, then an away loss to United and then a cup loss which was pretty cruel. I think anybody going into this thinking we're going to have it our way is setting themselves up for a night on the match thread getting angry that the team didn't back up their own arrogance.

I'm hoping with our superior attackers and with our defence being more resolute than it previously was that we should be able to grind a win out.

I’d drop both tbh but he prob won’t hope at least Lucas is dropped for bergwijn
